Welcoming us, Mr. Mui Van Thinh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Chieng Xuan commune, informed us: In 2022, a 14.5 km road connecting the Pa Cop ecological forest tourist area in Van Ho commune with the center of Chieng Xuan commune was invested in and constructed. To date, the road is nearing completion, shortening the distance from the center of Chieng Xuan commune to National Highway 6 in Van Ho, contributing to convenient travel and trade for the people. At the same time, the commune also received investment to upgrade the concrete road connecting Tan Thanh and Nam Den villages; upgrade and repair the commune's multi-purpose building, two internal village road projects, and one cultural house project in Suoi Quanh village.
Investment in transportation and public works has created momentum for Chieng Xuan's economic development. Based on the local potential and strengths, the commune's Party committee and government actively promote and encourage people to convert inefficient crops grown on sloping land to fruit tree cultivation. At the same time, they are promoting the application of science and technology in agricultural production; developing livestock and poultry farming to create marketable products.
From 2024 to the present, the commune, in coordination with the Provincial Farmers' Association, has implemented a jackfruit planting model in Sa Lai village, planted nearly 2,000 macadamia trees and bamboo under the buffer zone reforestation support program of the Xuan Nha Special Forest Management Unit, and collaborated with the Research and Development Center for Community Initiatives (RIC) to provide nearly 20,000 seedlings of peach, teak, and bamboo shoots to 25 households in Na Sang village; philanthropists have supported young people in planting 1,700 orange trees... These models are growing and developing well, opening up new avenues for economic development in the commune. Currently, the people in the commune cultivate more than 770 hectares of corn and cassava; more than 100 hectares of double-cropped rice, 29 hectares of bamboo shoots, and nearly 500 hectares of fruit trees. The commune has over 7,700 head of livestock, over 21,000 head of poultry, and 32 hectares of fish ponds.
Many effective economic models have been implemented and replicated, linked to the formation of production and consumption chains. A prime example is the Tien Thanh Agricultural Cooperative in Suoi Quanh village, Chieng Xuan commune. Mr. Nguyen Van Tien, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Tien Thanh Agricultural Cooperative, stated: The cooperative currently has 50 hectares of longan, mango, and orange trees; of which, 20 hectares of fruit trees are produced according to VietGAP standards. Members of the cooperative apply methods of grafting and improving fruit trees, and use pesticides according to the "four correct principles" to enhance product quality and protect the environment. On average, the cooperative harvests 400 tons of various fruits per year, with a profit of 3 billion VND after deducting expenses. It provides regular employment for workers; the average income of cooperative members is over 100 million VND per year.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Chinh's family is a member of the cooperative and owns nearly 3 hectares of land planted with oranges and pomelos. In 2021, he grafted Canh oranges onto Dien pomelo trees, converting a portion of his land from Vinh Long Vang oranges to Canh oranges and green-skinned pomelos. To date, his family has 1,000 Canh orange trees, 200 Vinh orange trees, and 300 green-skinned pomelo trees. In 2024, the family harvested nearly 30 tons of various fruits, generating revenue of 900 million VND, with a profit of 650 million VND after deducting expenses.
Alongside productive labor, the people of Chiềng Xuân commune actively participate in the "National Unity for Building a Culturally Rich Life" movement and the "National Unity for Building New Rural Areas and Civilized Urban Areas" campaign, as well as activities to maintain security and order. To date, the commune has achieved 10 out of 19 criteria in the New Rural Area Criteria Set; in 2024, 43.9% of households achieved the title of "Culturally Rich Family," and 2 out of 7 villages were recognized as "Culturally Rich Villages." The commune maintains self-governing neighborhood groups for security and order, 7 people's security teams, 7 mediation teams, and 7 grassroots fire prevention and fighting teams. These groups actively detect and report crimes and drug-related offenses, and prevent and combat various types of crimes and social evils.
Chieng Xuan is flourishing, with concrete roads extending throughout the village, lush orchards stretching as far as the eye can see, and many new, sturdy houses being built. With the attention of the Party and the State, the efforts of the local Party committee and government, and the unity and determination of the people, it is believed that the people's lives will gradually improve, contributing to building a prosperous, beautiful, and civilized homeland.
