Laos team captain: 'I am proud to be chosen to play against MU'

Laos national team captain Bounphachan Bounkong was honoured to be named in the ASEAN All Stars squad to play Manchester United in a friendly in May.

"At first I didn't think I would be called. When I saw my name there, I was very excited and proud to be chosen to play against MU. You know, this will be the first time for me and also the first time in history that a Lao player has the opportunity to play against MU," Bounphachan Bounkong shared on Off The Bench Thailand channel.

Bounphachan Bounkong was born in 2000 and has been the captain of the Laos national team since 2023. Bounkong was called up to the national team in 2018, when he was only 18 years old. Having played in many AFF Cups and SEA Games as well as World Cup qualifiers, he is one of the most experienced players of the Laos national team and a famous star of Lao football.

"I like Garnacho, a player with strong speed and intelligent playing style. I really want to face him," Bounkong said about the player who impressed him most at MU.

"However, among the clubs in the Premier League, I like Manchester City," Bounkong continued.

In the ASEAN All Stars attack, Bounphachan Bounkong is in the same line as Sergio Aguero (Malaysia), Andres Nieto (Cambodia), Maung Maung Lwin (Myanmar) and Joao Pedro (Timor Leste). These are the best strikers from Southeast Asian teams who can participate in the context of clubs not releasing players.

The match between ASEAN All Stars and Manchester United took place on May 28 at Bukit Jalil Stadium (Malaysia).
