(CPV) - Minh Quang and Thinh Phat scored to help the Vietnamese futsal team defeat the Malaysian futsal team 2-0, thereby opening the door to the semi-finals at the 2024 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship.
On the afternoon of November 4, in Thailand, the Vietnamese futsal team faced Malaysia in the second match of Group A of the 2024 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship. This is an important match because Malaysia is a direct competitor for a ticket to the semi-finals with coach Diego Giustozzi and his team, along with host Thailand.
As expected, the Vietnamese futsal team faced many difficulties against Malaysia, who played very disciplined and sharp in counter-attacks. However, the Vietnamese futsal team's goalkeeper blocked all the opponent's shots to keep a clean sheet for the team.

In the second half, the match continued to be exciting. In the 25th minute, Thinh Phat seized the opportunity from a corner kick to head the ball into the net, but before that, the referee blew the whistle, making the Malaysian players passive. After reviewing the slow-motion video , the referee denied the goal of the Vietnamese futsal team and asked for the corner kick to be retaken.
In the 28th minute, a Malaysian player handled the ball in the penalty area. The referee awarded Vietnam a 6-meter penalty. Tu Minh Quang did not miss the opportunity to beat the Malaysian goalkeeper, helping the Vietnamese futsal team open the score and escape the deadlock.
After conceding the goal, the Malaysian futsal team increased the pressure but once again made a mistake. In the 34th minute, the Malaysian futsal team lost the ball carelessly, Thinh Phat seized the opportunity and fired a powerful left-footed shot to raise the score to 2-0.
In the remaining minutes, the Malaysian futsal team played power-play but could not score and accepted a 0-2 loss. Winning the second consecutive match, coach Diego Giustozzi and his team temporarily ranked 2nd in Group A with 6 points and a chance to enter the semi-finals. Leading the way is host Thailand with the same 6 points, but ranked higher due to a better sub-index.
After the match, coach Diego Giustozzi praised the players: "We respect Malaysia, they are a strong team. Today, Vietnam played very well in both technique and tactics. I am confident in the team's ability and know my players will do well. If we win tomorrow's match, we will advance to the semi-finals."
According to the match schedule, the Vietnamese futsal team will meet Brunei on the afternoon of November 5 and Thailand on the afternoon of November 6.
