The Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center, Institute of Earth Sciences has just issued an earthquake notice in Phu Tho.
Accordingly, at 17:46:42 on August 26, an earthquake of magnitude 3.6, with a focal depth of about 16km, occurred at coordinates 20.716N-105.657E in Cao Duong commune, Phu Tho province. The epicenter was located in Cao Duong commune, Phu Tho province (Cao Duong commune, Luong Son district, former Hoa Binh province), about 40 km from the center of Hanoi, so some people in Hanoi felt the shaking.
According to some experts, the earthquake occurred on the Red River Fault, which stretches more than 1,000 km from Yunnan (China) to Vinh Phuc province. Because the fault is in a dormant period, only medium or small earthquakes occur. In March 2024, the old My Duc district experienced a magnitude 4 earthquake.
