| Hue City Women's Union repairs houses for disadvantaged members. |
The family of Ms. Do Thi Man, residing in residential group 9, Thuy Chau ward, Huong Thuy town, is classified as a disadvantaged family in the ward. Both she and her husband have poor health, resulting in unstable employment and constant financial difficulties for the family. Their house, built a long time ago, is now dilapidated and in disrepair, but the family lacks the means to repair it.
Given her circumstances, the Women's Union of Huong Thuy town provided 20 million VND; the "Fund for the Poor" Campaign Committee of Huong Thuy town also provided 20 million VND; and the "Fund for the Poor" of Thuy Chau ward provided 5 million VND... to help her repair her house. In addition to the financial support, women's union members and residents in the neighborhood also contributed labor, building materials, and essential supplies to help Ms. Man's family during the house repair process.
Ms. Pham Thi Thuy, residing in Group 3, Thuy Xuan Ward, Thuan Hoa District, is also a disadvantaged household, raising her children alone who are of school age. Although she has always received care and support from the local Women's Union, providing for her children's education is already a great burden, and repairing her dilapidated house is beyond her means. The Women's Union of the ward mobilized local organizations and connected with benefactors, raising 45 million VND to help her renovate her house to make it more sturdy.
"I am very grateful for the concern of the local authorities, philanthropists, especially the Women's Union of the ward. Having a clean and sturdy house is a motivation for my mother and me to continue striving in life," said Ms. Thuy.
Over the past period, women's associations at all levels, from the city to the localities, have "accelerated" their efforts in disseminating information, mobilizing resources, and connecting with others to secure funding for repairing and building shelters for impoverished female members.
Ms. Tran Thi Kim Loan, City Party Committee member and President of the Hue City Women's Union, said: The Women's Union at all levels has proactively reviewed poor women's households and women with difficult housing situations to plan assistance. To proactively secure funding for building and repairing houses for members, the Women's Union at all levels has established funds such as: "For Poor Women," "Shelter of Love," and monthly savings models, launching initiatives such as: "Saving Piggy Banks," "Green Houses," etc.
These "Houses of Love," repaired and rebuilt through the sharing and joint efforts of members and the community, are not only material support to help poor women "settle down," but also a great motivation for members to constantly strive and improve their lives.
Recently, the City Women's Union also held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of one "House of Compassion" and the repair of two temporary houses for members with difficult housing circumstances, with a total funding of 110 million VND. In addition, the various levels of the Union have repaired and started construction of dozens of "Houses of Compassion" for poor members.
