Opening of a series of North-South expressway component projects
On April 19, the Ministry of Construction chaired and coordinated with the provinces and cities of Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Khanh Hoa, and Tien Giang to organize the Technical Opening Ceremony of 4 component projects of the North-South Expressway Construction Project in the Eastern Region, Phase 2021-2025, and the Closing Ceremony of Rach Mieu 2 Bridge in the form of online connection with the bridge points in the provinces and cities where the project passes through.
Specifically, the main bridge is held at Passenger Terminal T3 - Tan Son Nhat International Airport (HCMC).
The North-South Expressway Construction Project in the Eastern Region, phase 2021 - 2025, has a total length of about 729 km, divided into 12 component projects, including the Ha Tinh - Quang Tri (267 km), Quang Ngai - Nha Trang (353 km) and Can Tho - Ca Mau (109 km) sections; the investment scale is divided into 4 lanes, with a preliminary total investment of VND 146,990 billion, passing through 12 provinces and cities with the project progress basically completed in 2025 and put into operation from 2026.

To date, the Ministry of Construction has basically completed 4/12 sections/component projects with a total length of about 208km, including: Bai Vot - Ham Nghi (length 35km); Ham Nghi - Vung Ang (length 54km); Bung - Van Ninh (length 49km) and Van Phong - Nha Trang (about 70/83km).
For the remaining 8/12 sections/component projects with a total length of about 521 km, investors and contractors are speeding up construction progress, striving to complete the entire route in 2025.
The 4 component projects opened to traffic and put into operation on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) will contribute to overcoming traffic congestion and minimizing traffic accidents, reducing traffic pressure on National Highway 1A.
At the same time, it shortens travel time, improves safety in exploitation, and creates favorable conditions for traffic from Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Yen province and from Hanoi capital to Ha Tinh and Quang Binh provinces. The projects also promote investment efficiency, meet the needs of travel, transportation, tourism, cultural and social exchange, contributing to promoting economic development, stimulating tourism potential in Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh provinces and the provinces of North Central and South Central.
"The above 4 projects and 8 component projects of the North-South Expressway Construction Project in the East phase 2021 - 2025 are being accelerated, contributing directly to promoting the disbursement of public investment capital to achieve the planned growth target (growth in 2025 is over 8% and double-digit growth in the period 2026 - 2030).
When completed, the Project will open up new development space, urban areas, industrial parks, and service areas for localities, create jobs for people and businesses, increase land value, facilitate investment promotion, reduce logistics costs, and increase the competitiveness of goods and the economy," the Ministry of Construction emphasized.
Rach Mieu 2 Bridge closed
The project has a total length of 17.6km, starting at Dong Tam intersection (intersection between National Highway 1 and Provincial Road 870) in Chau Thanh district, Tien Giang province; ending at about Km16+660 National Highway 60, about 0.71km from the northern abutment of Ham Luong bridge in Ben Tre city, Ben Tre province.
The project started in March 2022 and has so far completed about 84% of the work, of which the Rach Mieu 2 main bridge package has been completed about 88%. The Ministry of Construction will organize the closing of the Rach Mieu main bridge at the location of the two towers P19 and P20 on April 19, 2025.
The investment in the construction of Rach Mieu 2 bridge connecting Tien Giang province and Ben Tre province is in line with the approved national road network planning and local planning, gradually completing the traffic network in the region, meeting the increasing transportation demand on National Highway 60, promoting socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security of Tien Giang province and Ben Tre province in particular, the Mekong Delta region and the whole country in general, is of great significance in strengthening the connection between localities as well as solving the traffic congestion during holidays and Tet because the current scale of Rach Mieu bridge is not enough.
The event of the main Rach Mieu Bridge closing 4 months ahead of schedule is an important step, helping the investor and construction units strive to complete the project before October 30, 2025.
In addition to the two above-mentioned projects, on April 19, the Ministry of Construction also held the inauguration ceremony of Terminal T3 Project, Tan Son Nhat International Airport and the inauguration ceremony of the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway Project from National Highway 1A to Nguyen Van Tao intersection.
