From the trenches to the operating room, fight for life

Born into a family with a tradition of working in the medical field, Master, Doctor Truong Xuan Quang grew up with stories about medical ethics and the responsibility to save people. Therefore, he soon nurtured the dream of becoming a doctor - following in his family's footsteps and taking care of people's health.

However, when the country needed him, he put aside his personal ambitions and volunteered to join the army in 1981, when he was only 18 years old.

Years on the fierce battlefield gave him profound experience of loss, sacrifice and lack of medical care on the front lines. Images of his wounded and fallen comrades from serious illnesses were deeply engraved in his mind, further motivating him to pursue his dream of wearing a white coat and curing and saving lives.

After being discharged from the army, he returned home and continued to pursue his unfinished dream, striving to become a dedicated and talented doctor.

Through his constant efforts, studying and training at home and abroad, Master, Doctor Truong Xuan Quang has become one of the leading experts in orthopedic trauma surgery, helping to regain life and revive many new lives - including his teammates and veterans who suffered from bomb and bullet wounds.

"After being discharged from the army, some people are lucky to return home intact, others carry wounds that are difficult to heal - some stay on the battlefield forever. I am among those who are still healthy enough, lucky enough to continue living, studying and working. I still keep in touch with my old comrades regularly, if anyone has difficulties or health problems, I am willing to support them," Dr. Quang shared.

During a veterans’ meeting, Dr. Quang had the opportunity to meet a friend from his old unit - whose legs were unsteady due to severe osteoarthritis caused by a wartime injury. Seeing this, Dr. Quang encouraged his friend to go to the hospital for examination and treatment.

The joint replacement surgery performed by Dr. Quang helped his former teammate walk normally again. For Dr. Quang, it was not only a joy in his work, but also a deep relief in his heart, helping to heal the painful memories of the past.

A meaningful reunion: Gratitude to comrades - Healing old wounds

With the desire to show gratitude to those who contributed to the revolution and heal past wounds, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, Master, Doctor Truong Xuan Quang has implemented a free health check-up program for veterans at Hong Ngoc General Hospital - Phuc Truong Minh.

This is not only a voluntary medical activity, paying tribute to those who contributed to the revolution, but also a meaningful reunion between people who together overcame the bombs and bullets of the fierce battlefield, and now accompany each other in another battle: the fight against disease and the ravages of time.

The program takes place every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from May 2-23. Dr. Quang will directly examine orthopedic trauma patients, prescribe specialized bone and joint X-rays, etc. Not only examining, the doctor will also advise on treatment, diet, and lifestyle appropriate for each specific medical case. In addition, Dr. Quang will always support veterans during the examination and treatment process at Hong Ngoc - Phuc Truong Minh General Hospital.

"Meeting people who shared life and death with me and taking care of them is a great happiness for me. I believe that I am contributing my small part to show gratitude for the sacrifices of veterans and to ensure that no one is forgotten," Dr. Quang said emotionally.

Through the program, Dr. Quang not only hopes to help veterans ease their worries about illness, but also give them more strength to live the rest of their lives more peacefully and optimistically.

To him, each veteran is not just a patient, but a comrade - those who wrote history with him through their youth and blood. The war is long gone, but the ideal of saving people and the spirit of a soldier still burn in his heart.

The Free Orthopedic Examination Program is part of a series of events to honor those who contributed to the revolution at Hong Ngoc - Phuc Truong Minh General Hospital.
