
From early morning, Mr. Loc Minh Thuc's family in Ban Lanh village, Cong Son commune was busy picking and selecting ripe persimmons to sell to traders. Mr. Thuc said: My family currently has 800 Bao Lam persimmon trees. Since mid-August of the lunar calendar, my family has started harvesting persimmons. This year's persimmon crop is better than last year's. It is expected that this year my family will harvest 8 tons of fruit, an increase of about 1 ton compared to last year. The selling price ranges from 15,000 to 30,000 VND/kg, some large fruits are sold for 35,000 VND/kg.
Like Mr. Thuc, people growing Bao Lam persimmons in Cong Son commune are happy because this year the persimmon crop is good, the selling price remains stable, at times the price is about 5,000 VND/kg higher than last year. Mr. Hoang Van Dong, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Cong Son commune, said: The whole commune currently has 118 hectares of Bao Lam persimmons, of which 12 hectares are produced according to VietGAP standards. This year, the persimmon crop is good, the yield is estimated at 2.5 tons/ha, the output is estimated at 295 tons, an increase of about 10% compared to last year's persimmon crop.
Not only Cong Son commune, this year, Bao Lam persimmon growers in communes across the province also share the joy of a good harvest. Currently, the whole province has 585.35 hectares of Bao Lam seedless persimmons, of which 280.45 hectares are being harvested, the area of Bao Lam seedless persimmons produced according to VietGAP standards is 64.2 hectares, Bao Lam persimmons are grown in the communes: Cong Son, Dong Dang, Cao Loc... According to a survey by reporters in some communes with large Bao Lam persimmon growing areas in the province, this year, persimmons have a good harvest, with productivity and output estimated to increase by about 10% compared to last year's persimmon crop.
Bao Lam seedless persimmon is a famous specialty of the province, protected by geographical indications. The product is favored by consumers because of its crispness, rich sweetness, smooth flesh, and rich sand. Currently, Bao Lam persimmons are purchased by traders from all over the country at prices ranging from 15,000 to 30,000 VND/kg, especially large, beautiful fruits are purchased at 35,000 VND/kg.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, a Bao Lam persimmon buyer from Bac Ninh province, said: Bao Lam persimmons are delicious, sweet, and have a lot of sand, so customers love them. Every year I go to the persimmon purchasing point in Cong Son commune and neighboring communes. This year, on average, I buy 2-3 tons of persimmons per day, about 1 ton/day higher than last year; the price of persimmons has not fluctuated much, basically remaining stable at the same level as last year, depending on the time, it can be about 5,000 VND/kg higher than last year.
Ms. Phung Thi Kim Khanh, Head of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, Department of Agriculture and Environment said: In the coming time, we will continue to coordinate with the People's Committees of communes to encourage people to expand the area of rose cultivation, renovate old rose gardens; maintain and expand production models according to VietGAP safety standards; continue to promote trade promotion activities, promote products, connect consumption... Thereby, contributing to enhancing the value and brand of Bao Lam seedless roses and helping people feel secure in production, developing models in an effective and sustainable direction.
This year’s Bao Lam persimmon crop not only brought high yields but also maintained stable prices, helping farmers earn high incomes. This is a positive signal showing the effectiveness of applying advanced farming techniques and sustainable production orientation.
