Domestic pepper price updated on January 23, 2025 |
According to statistics recently released by the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in 2024, Vietnam exported 250,600 tons of pepper of all kinds, reaching nearly 1.32 billion USD. Compared to 2023, the export volume decreased by 5.1%, but the export turnover increased dramatically by 45.4%.
The good news is that the average export price of black pepper in 2024 will reach 5,154 USD/ton, up nearly 50%, and white pepper will reach 6,884 USD/ton, up 40% over last year.
Ms. Hoang Thi Lien - President of the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) said that up to now, Vietnamese pepper is very famous in the world market. Our country is the largest pepper producer in the world with 40% of output, exported to 110 countries and territories.
Of which, the US is our country's largest pepper export market with 72,311 tons in 2024, accounting for 28.9% and increasing by 33.2% compared to 2023. This is also the highest record export volume ever, up 21.0% compared to the previous record year of 2021, reaching 59,778 tons.

In terms of supply and demand, VPSA believes that Vietnam's pepper exports in 2025 will face both opportunities and uncertainties. Stable market demand and reduced output in some regions will help maintain high pepper prices. However, the extent of price increases will depend on the purchasing speed of major markets such as the US and China.
According to some experts, Vietnam's pepper output is expected to recover next season, but this does not mean that there will be an abundant supply to the market. Some opinions say that in Vietnam, a large amount of pepper is in the hands of speculators. These people use money from taking profits from other agricultural products that have just experienced a hot period such as coffee, durian, etc. to buy pepper. Thus, it is not easy to buy pepper at low prices even when the peak harvest is taking place.
