Units coordinate and make records of drivers "ripping off" passengers

Specifically, a Japanese passenger departed from Tan Son Nhat airport to a hotel in District 1, a distance of about 7 km. The meter on the bus showed a fare of more than 120,000 VND, but the driver charged the tourist 1.2 million VND.

Seeing that the fare was too high, the Japanese tourist reported the incident to the hotel manager. On the other hand, this guest went to the Tan Son Nhat Airport Border Police to report the incident.

Immediately afterwards, the units coordinated to inspect and work with the driver who took the tourist back to the hotel. Here, the Saigontourist taxi driver admitted to charging high fares. Traffic inspectors and related parties made a record of the incident. The driver also refunded the money to the passenger.

In addition, through inspection, the City Department of Transport Inspectorate discovered that the taxi's badge had expired and proceeded to fine it according to regulations.

The representative of the Department of Transport Inspectorate said that they will coordinate with relevant units to strictly handle the situation of "ripping off" passengers and charging excessively high transportation fees. From there, they will build the image of a civilized and modern Ho Chi Minh City. "In case tourists notice unusually high fares, they can immediately report them via the department's hotline or report them to Tan Son Nhat airport. From there, the forces will coordinate to conduct inspections and handle them" - the Department of Transport Inspectorate advised people and passengers.

Recently, on February 15, the Department of Tourism of Da Nang City also informed that it had supported a female Korean tourist to get back the money she was "ripped off" by a taxi driver at Da Nang airport. Previously, on December 27, 2022, a female Korean tourist THY came to Da Nang for a trip. On the way from Da Nang airport to the hotel, she was "ripped off" by the driver for 120,000 won (equivalent to 2.2 million VND), 10 times higher than the normal fare.

Da Nang City Department of Tourism has requested the police to urgently handle the violation.
