At the meeting with Thai businesses in Binh Dinh province, held on November 22, Ms. Supakan Yodchun, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand in Ho Chi Minh City, said that since the beginning of the year, the number of Vietnamese tourists to Thailand has reached about 800,000. Of which, 83% traveled by air, 17% traveled by road and other means. According to Ms. Supakan Yodchun, there are 6 airlines operating direct flights connecting 5 cities in Vietnam (Hanoi, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc) with 3 cities in Thailand (Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket). In addition, a number of Vietnamese tourists travel by road through Laos and Cambodia, to the northeastern provinces of Thailand. The representative of the Tourism Authority of Thailand in Ho Chi Minh City also said that most Thai tourists choose tours connecting by air in the 3 regions of Vietnam. In the Central region (including Da Nang, Hoi An, Hue, Nha Trang, Binh Thuan , Da Lat), the stay is about 4 days 3 nights or 3 days 2 nights.

However, restrictions on transportation between destinations and language barriers are the main challenges for Thai tourists when coming to Vietnam. Especially for localities that are not in the main tourist destinations. For Binh Dinh province, Ms. Supakan Yodchun suggested that there are two directions to start developing and promoting tourism with Thailand: connecting with existing flights between Thailand and Vietnam. For road routes, targeting the Thai tourist market in the northeast region, especially Ubon Ratchathani province - the province closest to Binh Dinh. Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee, said that there needs to be coordination and meetings between the two sides to immediately implement the tourism development policy to open routes between Binh Dinh and Thailand. Binh Dinh province is interested in investing and upgrading Phu Cat airport to become an international airport, to conveniently welcome world tourists.

Regarding roads, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province hopes that the Tourism Authority of Thailand will pay attention to and help the province approach travel associations, localities and tourism operators to coordinate more closely, in order to exploit new tourism product packages. Mr. Pham Anh Tuan hopes that in the first quarter of 2025, the Tourism Authority of Thailand will organize a private tour group to visit and learn about Binh Dinh. From there, a "tourism combo" package will be opened between Thailand and Binh Dinh province or vice versa. Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh, Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, suggested that Binh Dinh province should have policies to encourage and support airlines of the two countries to open direct flights connecting major tourist cities of Thailand to Binh Dinh province to create a boost for exchange of visitors, as well as direct investment. In addition, Binh Dinh province needs to pay more attention to and step up activities to promote, advertise, and cooperate to develop two-way relations between Binh Dinh tourism and major cities and tourist centers in Thailand. "Binh Dinh needs to send contact points, coordinate and exchange delegations of officials and tourism businesses to connect and share experiences in tourism development, and seek business cooperation opportunities. Actively coordinate with the Vietnam National Tourism Administration to organize national tourism promotion programs in Thailand in the coming time," said Mr. Khanh.
