Along with efforts to overcome the incident, Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) still demonstrates its social responsibility by persistently maintaining the activities of receiving and transporting relief goods free of charge to flood-affected localities.

Transporting 15,000 relief packages

The company said that despite suffering heavy infrastructure damage, the railway industry still prioritized relief work. From October 10 to November 24, the Vietnam Railway Corporation transported more than 15,000 packages of essential goods (including food, medicine, clothes, books, etc.) to the South Central provinces.

Goods are received through government agencies, the Fatherland Front and the Red Cross at all levels.

VNR prioritizes loading relief goods onto luggage cars connected to the Thong Nhat passenger train and express freight trains running North - South. Trains departing from Hanoi , Giap Bat, Saigon, Song Than... delivering goods to the nearest station still have trains running, creating favorable conditions for local reception and distribution.

This transport activity continues continuously, even when the railway line is cut off, many trains have to stop running or transfer loads.

To soon restore the national railway, Vietnam Railways has mobilized maximum forces and means.

National railway reconnection overnight

To restore the national railway line as soon as possible, Vietnam Railways has mobilized all its forces and means. Nghia Binh Railway Joint Stock Company mobilized nearly 800 workers to stay at the site, working through the night in bad weather conditions.

On November 24, leaders of Vietnam Railways were present at the Hao Son - Phu Hiep section, which was a serious landslide area, the roadbed was washed away and the track centerline was shifted by 4m to direct the repair work. By 7:00 p.m. on November 24, the Phu Hiep - Dong Tac railway section had officially returned to normal and the first freight train had passed through this section safely.

Vietnam Railways has also repaired three flooded locomotives at Chi Thanh and Hao Son stations, ready to pull trains as soon as the route is open.

It is expected that early tomorrow morning (November 26), the North-South railway will officially open its route through the Central region, ending nearly 10 days of paralysis due to natural disasters.

However, VNR also said that damage caused by floods in the South Central region (Dieu Tri - Nha Trang section) continues to affect passenger and freight train schedules.

Since November 17, the railway industry has temporarily suspended 65 passenger trains. On November 25 and expected November 26, VNR will continue to suspend 13 passenger trains including SE8, SE5, SE21/SE22, SNT2/SNT1, SE4, and SE48 (chartered trains).

Trains SE4 and SE3 departing on November 24 and 25 also had to shorten their journeys, using Da Nang as the final station instead of Saigon. To support customers, in the Gia - Tuy Hoa section, 976 passengers were safely transported by road.

VNR has returned more than 25,200 train tickets to passengers worth more than VND17.6 billion. Nearly 17,500 free main and side meals, worth more than VND623 million, have also been served to affected passengers. The company will continue to make efforts to shorten the passenger train journey through the area from Dieu Tri to Nha Trang until November 27, and hopes passengers will sympathize with the unexpected inconvenience caused by the natural disaster.
