Changed choice due to increased airfare.
Since the beginning of March 2024, airfares have not been able to cool down due to airlines undergoing aircraft maintenance. According to surveys of several routes, airfares on April 30th and May 1st doubled.
Along with the increase in airfare, domestic air tours have also seen price hikes compared to previous years. Nguyen Huu Cuong, Director of Trang An Travel Company, stated that the price of some domestic air tours has increased by 150-200% compared to last year. “Airfares are rising and fluctuating, so very few travel agencies can afford to secure tickets early due to the risk involved. Therefore, booking flights close to the departure date will significantly increase tour prices. Agencies that purchase air tickets in advance can maintain stable and reasonable tour prices for tourists. This year, land tours and nearby destinations will be the most popular,” Mr. Nguyen Huu Cuong analyzed.
With airfare prices still high, many people are opting for nearby destinations, traveling by road or rail. Ms. Hoang Thu Hien (from Nam Tu Liem district) shared that her family decided to choose Moc Chau, Son La province for their upcoming holiday because the road travel distance is quite convenient. Meanwhile, Ms. Nguyen Thu Trang (from Thanh Xuan district) chose to go to Ha Long to attend the Sea Carnival with many attractive activities.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ngo Ba Thanh (from Ba Dinh district) chose to enjoy himself in Hanoi. “Hanoi has many attractive activities and interesting places to visit. My family is looking for a resort in the outskirts of the capital to experience instead of going to crowded places,” Mr. Thanh shared.
Many attractive products
In preparation for the April 30th and May 1st holidays, many localities have prepared attractive tourism products. For example, Quang Ninh province is organizing the large-scale Ha Long Carnival 2024, with a highlight being a light show featuring approximately 2,000 drones. Lao Cai province is launching the 2024 Rose Festival in Sa Pa. Nha Trang city (Khanh Hoa province) is introducing nightly fireworks displays at the Ambassador Club tourism complex on Ana Marina Bay.
In Hanoi, many new tourism products in the suburbs are being launched during this period, such as the "South Thang Long Heritage Route" tour connecting destinations in Thanh Oai, Ung Hoa, and My Duc districts; and community-based tourism products in the Mien villages (Ba Vi district). According to Dang Huong Giang, Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, Hanoi aims to stimulate tourism in the suburbs to avoid creating pressure on tourist numbers during the upcoming holiday period and to offer new experiences for visitors.
In the travel sector, many companies have launched attractive products for over a month now. Specifically, Saigontourist Travel Service Company has developed more than 200 domestic and international tour itineraries, serving over 110,000 customers with more than 350 groups departing nationwide. Road tours remain the most popular product. VietSense Travel Company has launched attractive road tours, with a focus on tours to the Northeast and Northwest regions priced from 1.8 million to over 2 million VND; some longer tours to Da Nang - Hoi An, Nha Trang - Da Lat, and Phu Quoc are currently offered at preferential all-inclusive prices of around 7-8 million VND per person, departing on April 28th and 29th.
Currently, in addition to popular domestic road tours, many affordable international tours are being chosen by tourists. Nguyen Ha Hai, Director of Hongaitour Travel Company, Quang Ninh branch, said that road tours to China such as Dongxing - Nanning, Hekou - Jianshui - Kunming, Jiuzhaigou - Leshan - Chongqing... priced from over 6 million to over 10 million VND per person are attracting many Vietnamese tourists. According to Nguyen Ngoc An, Deputy General Director of Vietluxtour Travel Company, tours to South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan (China)... with good prices are also popular choices for tourists.
The April 30th and May 1st holidays present many opportunities for localities and tourism businesses to develop new products, attract tourists, and increase revenue. Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, Ha Van Sieu, noted that given the fluctuations in prices and the potential for overcrowding at many tourist destinations, localities need to have plans to ensure security and safety; requiring tourism businesses to publicly display prices, strengthen inspections and supervision, and help tourists have a safe and enjoyable holiday.
