
Potential market
It is expected that on June 21, the tourism industry of the three localities of Quang Nam, Da Nang and Thua Thien Hue will organize a joint tourism promotion program in Taiwan. This is the first time a large-scale tourism promotion event has been held in this territory.
According to the representative of the leader of the Quang Nam Tourism Information and Promotion Center, in addition to strengthening communication and promoting destination brands, the event aims to introduce tourism products and services of Quang Nam as well as 5 provinces and cities on the Central Heritage Route (Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang , Quang Nam) to an attractive common destination, creating conditions for tourism businesses to expand the market.
“In fact, in the past, there were many Taiwanese tourists coming to Quang Nam , but the increase was not as dramatic as in the past. Therefore, this year's promotional event will aim to further attract tourists from this emerging market,” said a representative of the Quang Nam Tourism Information and Promotion Center.
With cultural similarities, Taiwanese tourists easily adapt to Quang Nam tourism products and services. In recent months, some tourist attractions such as Cam Thanh coconut forest or My Son relic site have witnessed a strong growth in Taiwanese visitors.
These are very important results in the context of some international tourist markets in Europe and Australia slowing down as they are now (due to the impact of the EURO football tournament). Thereby, they play an important role in the process of recovering the flow of international tourists to Quang Nam now and in the future.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Khiet - Director of My Son Cultural Heritage Management Board acknowledged that the increase in Taiwanese visitors in particular and Asian visitors in general has contributed to diversifying the structure of visitors to My Son.
Since the beginning of the year, My Son Relic Site has welcomed more than 260,000 visitors, with an average of more than 1,400 visitors buying tickets each day, more than 70% coming from the Asian market, mainly Taiwanese and Malaysian visitors.
In 2024, My Son aims to welcome 400,000 visitors (350,000 international visitors), so the increase in the Taiwanese tourist market in the context of a slowdown in European visitors has brought positive impacts, helping My Son complete its set goals.
Maintain Taiwanese tourist market
As of May, Da Nang International Airport receives an average of 6 direct flights from Taiwan every day, including Taipei (4 flights), Kaohsiung (1 flight), and Taichung (1 flight).

According to the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, in the first 4 months of the year, Taiwan was a market with impressive growth with about 418 thousand visitors (an increase of more than 116% over the same period).
Of these, more than 45% of tourists choose Central tourist destinations such as Hue, Hoi An, Da Nang..., 40% go to the North and 15% go to the South. The Central region is favored by Taiwanese tourists because there are many flight routes and the flight time is not long (less than 2 hours and 30 minutes).
In Quang Nam, in 2023 and the first 5 months of 2024, the Taiwanese tourist market is always in the top 5 international tourist markets.
Statistics for the first 5 months of 2024 show that the total number of Taiwanese visitors to Quang Nam is estimated at over 131,000, ranking second only to Korean visitors (over 161,000).
Mr. Van Ba Son - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism affirmed that the tourism industry will continue to maintain the Taiwanese tourist market in the total structure of international visitors to Quang Nam.
It can be seen that in recent years, the fluctuations from international tourist markets have been quite large. Compared to the traditional European and American tourist markets of Quang Nam, the Asian tourist market has grown remarkably, especially the tourist markets near Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia.
According to Mr. Nguyen Son Thuy - Director of Duy Nhat Dong Duong Tourism Company Limited, one reason for the sharp increase in Taiwanese visitors is that in addition to the government's support policy after the COVID-19 pandemic, which helps Taiwanese people have money to travel, Da Nang's image is also rated quite well in Taiwan, so people are eager to come to the Central region. Therefore, the Taiwanese tourist market has a lot of potential and will continue to grow well.
“Not only Taiwan, but also tourist markets such as the Philippines, Malaysia and Cambodia have also seen strong growth as a number of flights have been and will be increased in the final months of the year. This promises to effectively offset the decline in international tourist markets from Europe and the US to Quang Nam,” Mr. Thuy analyzed.
