Mr. Huy said that it is also a way for international friends to know more about the culture as well as gradually affirm the position of high-quality Vietnamese coffee beans in the market.
According to Nguyen Quang Huy, Midori means green in Japanese. Five years ago, the 29-year-old man from Phu Yen chose Me Linh (Lam Ha district) to start a business because he fell in love with the taste of highland coffee. And at Midori Farm, Huy has been building a sustainable coffee model under the forest canopy, one of the agricultural trends being chosen by many countries around the world.
Tasting each ripe coffee fruit with his own hands, witnessing how farmers grow, process and prepare each high-quality coffee bean has brought Quentin (28 years old, Belgian nationality) interesting experiences and helped him love coffee and Vietnamese people more.
Quentin and his group of friends also traveled many places in Vietnam by motorbike and decided to stop in Lam Dong for 3 days to experience and learn about coffee. The experience from picking and tasting the fresh coffee fruit to the fragrant flavor of a cup of coffee made him and his friends feel very interesting and had more energy to start a new day.
This is also an opportunity for young people from faraway Belgium to have interesting experiences with high-quality coffee in Vietnam. Thanks to this experience, they will know that to create delicious cups of coffee, it is necessary to go through many stages.
For the first time doing the work of a real farmer, besides the excitement, Quentin and his friends also partly saw the hard work of coffee farmers, evidenced by the difficulty of moving on the steep hills and gardens, the sweat that farmers put in exchange for delicious, quality cups of coffee for consumers.
After harvesting, the coffee beans are cleaned, the floating beans are scooped out and the green beans are removed. Here, everything is done by hand. Huy said that depending on the processing method, the coffee beans are soaked, dried, roasted... for different periods of time. That is also what makes coffee interesting and attractive. Besides, the coffee beans also show the culture, farming tradition as well as the geographical characteristics of each locality.
After renovating the garden and strictly following the chemical-free coffee care process, from 2020 to now, Mr. Huy has stabilized the yield of 2 tons of coffee beans/2 hectares, a 50% reduction compared to previous conventional cultivation. However, to increase profits, Mr. Huy organizes to welcome visitors, stay and complete the process of preliminary processing and processing of commercial coffee.
In addition, Mr. Huy regularly participates in short-term training courses on sustainable organic agriculture held abroad to seek sustainable solutions to issues related to the environment, food security, and sustainable development. Here, products from Midori Farm's model are also known to international friends.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy directly guides customers to distinguish the flavors of coffee beans such as robusta and arabica through different processing methods.
Visitors can try the direct roasting method over fire that is still used in many places as well as understand the advantages and disadvantages of each method.
Depending on the roasting time, the flavor will be different. This is also the important step that makes the difference of the coffee cups.
Each visitor will have a day as a real farmer on the coffee farms, gaining more knowledge in the stages of roasting, grinding and tasting the rich flavor of coffee. Finally, enjoy a cup of hot coffee that has just been roasted to fully feel the deliciousness as a wonderful gift from the Lam Vien plateau.
