Chi Ca commune is implementing the propagation and conservation of local seedless persimmon trees with a total area of 34 hectares, of which 4 hectares are in harvest season, mainly concentrated in Chi Ca Ha village.
As the first person to bring seedless persimmon trees to plant in Chi Ca Ha village, Mr. Vuong Van Kinh shared: His family planted this persimmon tree since 1995, at first it was only a trial planting, then the tree grew well and was suitable for the natural conditions and soil here. After many years, the seedless persimmon tree bore many fruits and brought income to the family. From then on, his family expanded and planted more around their garden. Other families also started to take seedless persimmon trees to plant.
When it comes to Chi Ca persimmons, consumers know about the quality every time they have the opportunity to go to the market in Xin Man district and enjoy the persimmons here. Usually, Chi Ca seedless persimmons will be round, as big as a teacup and have a golden color when harvested. Persimmons have a sweet, crunchy taste when eaten and are grown naturally, the care and harvesting process does not use any preservatives, so they are popular with many people.
According to the people, this year due to unfavorable weather conditions during the fruiting period, the yield was lower than previous years. However, in reality, in the rose gardens in Chi Ca Ha village, many rose trees are still laden with fruit and are expected to bring in more income.
Mr. Nong Thanh Tung, Chi Ca Ha village, said: His family has 7 persimmon trees. Each crop also brings in more than 10 million VND in income. When the harvest season is near, traders come to order and buy the whole garden. Although the wholesale price at the garden will be lower than the retail price at the market, in return, there is no time and transportation costs. This year, the fruit has a relatively beautiful appearance, the selling price will not fluctuate much compared to last year. Seedless persimmons in Chi Ca commune are entering the beginning of the season, the selling price is from 20 - 25 thousand VND/kg (the fruit has been soaked in water), while fresh persimmons that have not been soaked are priced from 10 - 12 thousand VND/kg.
Mr. Vuong Van Thuong, Head of Chi Ca Ha Village, informed: The end of September and the beginning of October every year is the time when seedless persimmon trees begin to enter the harvest season. Currently, some households are selling at retail markets. During the main season, the village is busier with harvesting and many traders come to the garden to buy and transport to sell everywhere. Up to now, every household in the village grows persimmons and the number of seedless persimmon trees for harvest is also similar, averaging 10 - 15 trees/household.
"My family alone has nearly 20 trees. In recent years, the main place to consume persimmons is the central market of Xin Man district and other provinces such as Hanoi , Hai Phong... Many customers in distant provinces find Chi Ca persimmons delicious, so every harvest season they order them to eat or give as gifts," said Mr. Thuong.
According to the experience of farmers growing seedless persimmons in Chi Ca commune, to have delicious, crispy soaked persimmons, harvesting and soaking in water is extremely important. After being picked from the tree, the persimmons must not be scratched, otherwise they will be spoiled when soaked. Fresh persimmons will be soaked in warm water in the right proportion, changing the water every 2 days, soaking for 3-5 days before eating. When changing the water, it is necessary to wash away the substances on the fruit so that it will be more fragrant and crispy when eaten.
Talking to reporters of the Ethnic and Development Newspaper, Chairman of the People's Committee of Chi Ca commune, Lu Van Tinh, said: Currently, Chi Ca commune is actively coordinating with the district's professional agencies to develop local OCOP products. At the same time, promoting propaganda, linking product output, expanding the area, gradually making seedless persimmons the commune's main crop, increasing people's income.
