Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí29/09/2023

On September 29, the Ho Chi Minh City Vocational Education Association and the Vietnamese Calligraphy Artisans Club (under the Vietnam Craft Villages Association) organized an introduction to the calligraphy contest to celebrate the 41st anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers' Day (November 20, 1982 - November 20, 2023) with the theme "Respecting teachers and valuing education".

With this theme, the entries not only demonstrate the artist's artistic level but are also an opportunity for contestants to express their feelings towards teachers, those who have helped them cultivate knowledge.

According to artist Vo Duong, President of the Vietnamese Calligraphy Artists Club, the competition is usually only for professional calligraphers. To encourage the promotion and development of traditional art forms among students of vocational schools, this year's competition will have two award systems for professionals and amateurs.

The contest is open to all calligraphy enthusiasts nationwide. Participants can register in the professional group (professional calligraphers) or the amateur group (calligraphy enthusiasts, including students). Each group has 12 prizes.

According to Ms. Le Kieu Nuong, General Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Vocational Education Association, the association will deploy the contest to colleges, intermediate schools and vocational education facilities in the city for students of vocational schools to participate. The goal is to create a useful playground, arousing students' passion for a traditional art of the nation.

In particular, the winning works will be displayed and auctioned. The auction proceeds will be used to contribute to charity funds, education promotion funds, etc. to help disadvantaged students in the vocational school system to continue their studies.

According to the President of the Vietnamese Calligraphy Artists Club, making a living from calligraphy is very difficult, only a few people with good thinking and skills can make a living from this profession.

However, Vietnamese calligraphy is not only a profession but also a traditional art that needs to be preserved and nurtured to foster national pride for the younger generation. At the same time, it is also a subject that trains writing and drawing skills and cultivates character very well.

Mr. Vo Duong shared: "I hope that through the competition and the expansion of the Vocational Education Association in schools, the art of Vietnamese calligraphy will be spread more widely to many people, especially the younger generation. Only then will Vietnamese calligraphy be maintained, preserved, and developed sustainably over time."

The 2023 Calligraphy Competition includes 24 prizes, each group has 12 prizes, total prize of 104 million VND and gifts. Each participant can submit up to 4 works.

Contestants will take a photo of their work (real photo, no editing) and send it to email ([email protected]) for preliminary selection. When they reach the final round, the organizers will notify the contestants to send the original work.
