Making Lao the 8th foreign language taught in general schools

Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong said that the policy of making Lao the 8th foreign language taught in Vietnamese schools is not only of educational significance. This is also a strategic step to strengthen the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos.

Currently, Lao language teaching has been implemented in schools in border areas.

According to the Vietnam-Laoseducational cooperation project for the 2021-2030 period, from 2021 to present, each year Vietnam will receive 40 Lao students to study high school in Vietnam.

The seven foreign languages ​​currently officially taught in high schools include English, Russian, French, Chinese, German, Korean and Japanese.

2025 is the first year that Japanese is included in the list of foreign languages ​​for high school graduation exams.

This year's high school graduation exam also allows candidates to choose a foreign language other than the language they study at school and one of the seven languages ​​mentioned above.
