Female tourist reveals experience of being "ripped off" and scammed in Egypt

(Dan Tri) - Although this is not the first time she has set foot in Egypt, Penny - a travel blogger (someone who shares travel experiences) - still encountered "rip-offs", forced purchases, and fraud when she arrived in this country.

According to Daily Mail , although she works in the tourism industry and has been to Egypt many times, Penny - a female travel blogger - said she "couldn't wait another minute to leave Egypt" after a troublesome and disappointing vacation.

On Instagram, Penny posted a video recording the moment she left Egypt, detailing the terrible experiences she encountered, from the moment she first set foot in Egypt until the moment she left.

Penny said she had been to Egypt many times, but each time she returned, things were worse than the last time. According to her, what made her most tired was the widespread fraud, solicitation and culture of extorting money from tourists in this country.

"There was no sincere service shown, from the tour guide to the hotel staff, all aimed at taking more money, even though we had paid in full in advance," she shared.

Penny's bad experience started right at the airport. As soon as she arrived, she was scammed by a fake Uber driver and then continued to be "ripped off" by a real Uber driver.

Not only that, she also said she was stuck in a tomb in Egypt because a tourist asked for a tip. She said a local stood blocking the door, waiting for a tip before letting her go.

"On the street, I was surrounded by people selling souvenirs, statues... When customers refused, they turned angry. The pressure was constant and extremely tiring," Penny recalled.

Penny and friends also got into trouble at the airport (Photo: Screenshot).

Another disappointing experience Penny had was when she booked a luxury cruise on the Nile, only to be put on an old, dirty ship piloted by a 12-year-old boy.

She also said that the tour guide took her into a store and forced her to shop there twice during the trip. Even when preparing to leave Egypt, Penny and her friends were repeatedly checked for luggage, and asked for personal information or money before their bags were returned.

In the end, despite being told they could enter the airport lounge for free, Penny and her friends were forced to pay 175 euros (about 5.3 million VND) to enter the lounge.

Aside from the financial inconveniences, Penny was particularly emphatic that “Egypt is not for the faint-hearted.” She said many men in the country stared and said bad things when she walked through, even when she was with four male friends.

"I don't understand what they want, but those looks and words really make me uncomfortable," Penny shared.

Penny frankly shared that if you don't mind being stared at, whistled at, asked for money for no reason, don't need privacy, and have a lot of money, Egypt might be right for you. "If not, get on a plane and go back," she said.

Penny’s post quickly garnered tens of thousands of comments and shares on social media. Many people who had been to Egypt expressed deep sympathy, saying they had been in similar situations and encountered situations that made them feel unsafe or disrespected.

However, many people also have the opposite perspective, saying they had wonderful vacations in Egypt and feel disappointed that the country's image is painted so negatively.

It is also argued that every destination has its bright and dark sides. Egypt may be chaotic, but its culture, heritage and landscapes are truly worth it.
