What is special about the first river culture festival in Can Tho?

Can Tho City People's Committee has just announced a series of activities for the 2025 River Culture Festival with the theme "Can Tho - Colors of Rivers".

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice Chairwoman of Can Tho City People's Committee, the festival is organized to strongly promote the image of the river city, contribute to stimulating tourism and become a new cultural brand of the city.

“The event not only creates unique tourism products but also contributes to raising awareness of protecting the river environment, aiming for sustainable development,” Ms. Diep emphasized.

The Can Tho River Culture Festival 2025 will be held for the first time on a large scale, including 12 outstanding activities, taking place from December 26 to January 1, 2026.

Highlights include the photo exhibition “Rhythm of life on the river - The West past and present” at Ben Ninh Kieu Park; culinary demonstration at Hau River Park; acoustic performance on Cai Khe canal; sailboat and flyboard racing and the 2025 Open Composite Hull Racing Championship...

In addition, at the festival, there are also a series of spaces to promote OCOP products, local specialties, and tourism products of Mekong provinces, combined with sports and health areas, water sports experiences, and floating lanterns on the Hau River.

One of the notable highlights was the workshop “Can Tho Tourism - A breakthrough development push”, gathering experts and tourism businesses to discuss solutions for developing river tourism, linking tours with Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong Delta provinces and the Mekong sub-region countries.

Can Tho City People's Committee directed communes and wards to simultaneously carry out riverbank cleaning campaigns, collect garbage and mobilize people to protect the environment before, during and after the festival.

Also according to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, in the past 10 months, the number of tourists to Can Tho reached nearly 10 million (over 90% of the 2025 plan), with revenue of more than VND 8,600 billion, an increase of 25% over the same period in 2024.

The river culture festival is expected to continue to create a strong boost for the city's tourism industry next year.
