In the middle of a summer afternoon, the harsh sun of the Northwest region seems to be soothed by the bustling atmosphere in the yard of Ms. Ha Thi Chinh, Vang Lung village, Chieng Hac commune, Son La province.

Every mango season, this place is not only a place to pack agricultural products but also a "small market" filled with laughter, people classify mangoes, people wrap each fruit, people carry each basket of mangoes onto the refrigerated truck. Sweat is dripping, everyone's hands are moving quickly, because people always remind each other: keep each crate of mangoes refrigerated early, to keep the quality intact so that the mangoes can travel far.

Each mango that meets export standards is treated with care by Ms. Chinh and everyone else like a "thin egg": stem exactly 2cm long, no sap; weight from 600g or more; no worms, no spots, no pointed bottom.

Mangoes are carefully cared for and packaged by Ms. Ha Thi Chinh.

Ms. Ha Thi Chinh shared: "We harvest in small batches, transport them by motorbike to the warehouse, gently wipe the sap and arrange each fruit, avoid bruising, and keep the powder intact. When we get to the yard, we classify, wrap in paper, and pack the mangoes immediately, not leaving them for too long. After that, the mangoes are put on refrigerated trucks and preserved according to standards. Each stage is a link, if we are not careful enough, the whole crop's efforts will be wasted. Exporting mangoes is not just about selling mangoes, but also about prestige, trust, and pride."

Thanks to the strict, precise process and professionalism from the post-harvest stage, Thai Chinh’s mangoes have met export standards for many years. Chinh’s mangoes have been present in many demanding markets, going further, and more firmly.

From livestream to digital technology application

From a mountain woman who spent all year working on her fields, Ms. Ha Thi Chinh made a strong transformation when she started selling mangoes online. Ms. Chinh said that she researched, watched other people's livestreams, and then started livestreaming to sell from her own mango trees. And since learning about online sales and livestreaming, she has been able to connect with many customers in all regions of the country.

In addition, she also participated in a digital transformation training course, which helped her change her perspective on farming . She started accessing social networks, learning how to build personal and business brands on Facebook and Zalo. More importantly, she knew how to "tell the story" about her products, not just selling mangoes, but introducing the organic farming process, sharing images of hard work, connecting customers with sincerity and transparency.

Ms. Ha Thi Chinh livestreams selling mangoes

"I started posting more regularly, with clearer articles and better photos. Customers not only bought mangoes but also understood who I was, what I did, and how I did it. From there, trust was built, and orders kept increasing," said Ms. Chinh.

For mountainous women like Ms. Chinh, digital transformation is not just about technology, but also about changing mindset. Ms. Chinh not only changed the way she promoted, but also changed the way she organized her work such as: boldly hiring students to design logos, build brand identities; applying electronic tools to manage orders, support shipping, especially using social networks to maintain close connections with customers.

"Before, I just thought simply: if you make delicious mangoes, you will sell them. But now I understand: you have to know how to tell a story, build a brand, and have a professional image. Buyers not only want delicious food, but also want to understand the growers and see the kindness in each product," she said.

That change in thinking has brought about clear results. This year’s mango season, Ms. Ha Thi Chinh’s revenue increased by 50% in just one month. A telling figure that shows that when women in the highlands know how to master technology, know how to promote, and know how to be proud of themselves, agricultural products will not only remain in the garden but will reach out to the world.

Accompanying women to bring agricultural products far and wide

Developing e-commerce, effectively managing the market, promoting digital transformation and green transformation are the key tasks of Son La province. For a locality with strong agricultural products, livestream sales have become an effective tool to attract customers and increase revenue.

From 2021 to present, the Department of Industry and Trade of Son La province has coordinated to organize many training courses for businesses and cooperatives to introduce, promote and sell agricultural products on social networking platforms (Tiktok, Zalo, Facebook) and e-commerce platforms. Thereby, helping cooperatives and farmers access technology, proactively organize livestreams in the garden, and sell agricultural products quite effectively. Many farmers not only know how to sell products, but also tell stories about the products, their origin, creating customer trust in local agricultural products.
