“Flower streets, clean houses” change the face of the countryside

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the province's establishment and implement the "Green Hau Giang " project, the Women's Union of Truong Long A commune, Chau Thanh A district implemented the model "Flower road, clean house" to contribute to beautifying the countryside and raising people's awareness in environmental protection.

It is known that this model was launched in early April, the route is 3km long in Truong Thang hamlet, Truong Long A commune. The Women's Union of the commune coordinated with the Party cell and the hamlet government to plant more than 5,000 peony trees along the roads from the beginning of the hamlet to the end of the hamlet, with a cost of over 100 million VND from socialized sources.

The Commune Women's Union launched the implementation of the model "Flower Street, Clean House" with specific criteria. "Flower Street" is a clear road, with open sidewalks, no households encroaching on the road corridor, obstructing the view, causing danger to traffic participants, the road has ornamental flowers or green hedges along the line; and "Clean House" is to mobilize people to implement the "4 clean" criteria according to the model "Family of 5 haves, 4 cleans" respectively "clean house, clean kitchen, clean alley, clean garden".

To achieve those criteria, the Commune Women's Union has actively mobilized and propagated to its members, women and people to join hands in clearing roads, planting trees in front of doors, and sorting waste at source; people responded enthusiastically and made great efforts to beautify the countryside.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Nghia, in Truong Thang hamlet, said: “The roads are now clean, and the landscape has become more colorful. Because of the beautiful scenery, the people here responded very well. When the Women's Union came to promote, everyone started working to make the roads clean, beautiful, and airy. Currently, we are pruning and cutting branches so that by this Tet holiday, the trees in front of our houses will bloom together to make the countryside more brilliant.”

Like Mr. Nghia, Mr. Le Van Dep, residing in Truong Thang hamlet, always accompanies and encourages the whole family to join hands in clearing weeds, sorting waste in the right place and planting trees on both sides of the road in front of the house. “In general, thanks to the Women's Union, the Party cell and the hamlet government's active propaganda; the people here are excited and unanimous in implementing, so from the beginning to the end of the hamlet, the roads are always clean and beautiful,” Mr. Dep shared.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tham, in Truong Thang hamlet, added: “Having a flower tree in front of the house to look at every day makes the spirit more excited and cheerful. The roads are cleaned and cleared by all households, so it is now very convenient to travel, so everyone actively takes care of the flowers and cleans the house every day to maintain this beauty,” Ms. Tham confided.

Ms. Hoa Thi Hong Tuyen, Vice President of the Women's Union of Truong Long A Commune, said: "The model has achieved practical results thanks to the high consensus from the hamlet government to the people. During the implementation period, everyone has complied with the set targets. In the future, the Women's Union of the commune will continue to maintain the effectiveness of the model "Flower Road, Clean House" to spread to neighboring hamlets, every road has flowers, the roads are always clean and beautiful".

Through the implementation of this model, the role of the Women's Union in working with local authorities to beautify the countryside and build spacious roads has been demonstrated, thereby raising people's awareness of environmental protection, contributing to the commune achieving the criteria of advanced new rural areas...
