The proposal is a gift to Moscow, the source said, and is aimed at protecting the Black Sea grain deal that allows Ukraine to export food to global markets.

Citing a source familiar with the matter, the Financial Times said the plan, proposed by Moscow through UN-brokered talks, would allow Russian banks to set up a branch to handle claims related to grain exports.

The new entity will be allowed to use the international payment system SWIFT, which was closed to Russia's largest banks after Moscow began its military campaign in Ukraine in February 2022.

* According to Sputnik , the United Nations (UN) and Russia may hold talks in the coming days on a grain deal.

The talks, which are likely to take place in Geneva, Switzerland, will largely determine the future of the deal.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin said that Moscow was working to make July 18 the final day of the grain deal. The UN has previously called for the removal of all obstacles to expanding the Black Sea initiative.

The Russian foreign minister added that in the event of the termination of the grain deal, Moscow would guarantee free supplies of an equal or larger batch of grain to the poorest countries at its own expense.
