Eurocham looks forward to regular tax discussions with the Ministry of Finance

DNVN - Sharing at the working session with the Ministry of Finance on June 23, Mr. Dominik Meichle - Chairman of the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham) expressed his desire to discuss regularly with the Ministry of Finance, especially on taxes.

According to Deputy Minister of Finance Cao Anh Tuan, the EU is an important partner of ASEAN in general and Vietnam in particular. The Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), which took effect in 2020, has strongly promoted economic and trade relations between the two sides. At the same time, the EU is also a major investor in Vietnam (ranked 6th by the end of 2023).

Mr. Tuan hopes that the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) will soon be ratified by EU member countries and put into effect. This will be a good basis for expanding investment and trade opportunities between the two sides, further affirming the position and potential of EU investors in Vietnam.

Informing the delegation of the European-ASEAN Business Council (EU-ABC), Mr. Tuan emphasized that Vietnam's macroeconomic situation in 2023 is basically stable, inflation is under control. Major economic balances are guaranteed, actively supporting socio-economic recovery and development.

At the meeting, the leader of the Ministry of Finance said that Vietnam's economy has many signs of positive growth.

In the first months of 2024, Vietnam's economy has shown many signs of positive growth. State budget revenue and expenditure have both increased compared to the same period in 2023, and the balance of the central and local budgets has been ensured.

Notably, the Ministry of Finance has submitted to the Government and competent authorities policies on tax, fee and charge exemption and reduction to support businesses to overcome difficulties and restore production and business. Vietnam will continue to strengthen fiscal management, control budget deficit and public debt, control inflation, maintain macroeconomic stability and maintain sustainable growth.

Mr. Jens Rübbert - Chairman of EU-ABC, Managing Director and Head of Asia-Pacific Region, Landesbank Baden-Württemberg congratulated Vietnam on its impressive economic achievements as well as its commitments to promoting the development of a strong business and trade environment.

"European businesses are the 6th largest investors in Vietnam. In the coming years, we hope to increase this ranking. The EU-ABC delegation to Vietnam this time is the largest delegation, with 100 delegates from 40 different organizations.

This confirms that Vietnam's business environment is increasingly important to European businesses," said Mr. Jens Rübbert.

At the meeting, representing more than 1,300 members in Vietnam, Mr. Dominic - Chairman of Eurocham expressed his desire to continue regular discussions with the Ministry of Finance, especially regarding tax issues. The European business confidence index for investment and business in Vietnam shows that Vietnam is an attractive environment for European investors.

Eurocham Chairman recommends that Vietnam needs more efforts to improve the business environment.
