FIFA causes outrage after breaking rules in Club World Cup final

According to Ziegler, this action shows that FIFA puts the interests of showmanship and commerce above the dignity of football rules. Law 7.2 clearly states: "Players are allowed a break of no more than 15 minutes between halves, and a water break during extra time may not exceed one minute." Even referees have the right to be flexible within the allowed limits, and cannot openly turn 15 minutes into 24 minutes like that.

In fact, FIFA is not the only organization that decides the Laws of the Game. The power to amend the law belongs to the International Football Association Board (IFAB), where FIFA only holds 4 out of 8 votes, with the remaining votes going to England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. This arbitrary relaxation of the law is considered a bad precedent, especially when the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™ has been widely considered a "disguised money-making scheme".
