Flamingo Holding plays big, Nui Coc Lake escapes fate of 'sleeping princess'

Nui Coc Lake, a hidden gem in the midlands, is about to be awakened. The Flamingo Majestic Island Resort project promises to turn this place into a high-class resort destination, opening a new chapter for Thai Nguyen tourism.

When the big screen on the stage of the groundbreaking ceremony of the tourist area   Flamingo   Majestic Island Resort splits in two, revealing a landscape like a watercolor painting. The islands undulate, blurred in the morning mist on the vast lake. Perhaps, within just a year, this area will turn into a luxury destination, attracting wealthy tourists and owners of million-dollar resort villas to visit the tea land of Thai Nguyen .

The groundbreaking ceremony on March 15 marked an important turning point in the development of Thai Nguyen tourism. Nui Coc Lake, a place about 1 hour and 30 minutes drive from Hanoi and approved by the Prime Minister as a national tourist area nearly a decade ago, is still like a "sleeping princess" waiting for investors to wake it up.

According to Mr. Nguyen Huy Dung, who was recently transferred from Deputy Minister of Information and Communications - now the Ministry of Science and Technology - to become Chairman of Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Committee, the groundbreaking ceremony is "an event of great significance, marking a new step forward in the province's tourism development strategy, aiming to turn Nui Coc Lake into an international-class resort and eco-tourism destination."

Thai Nguyen and tourism ambitions

Thai Nguyen used to be known as the industrial capital of the North with its famous steel mill during the subsidy period and now the Samsung complex with billions of dollars in investment capital. But Mr. Dung revealed that the locality is investing heavily in tourism development with the goal of doubling the number of tourists from the expected 3 million this year to 6 million by 2030.

Mr. Dung affirmed: "Nui Coc Lake is not only a famous scenic spot but also has an important meaning in the tourism development orientation of the province", so he expects that the implementation of the international resort project here will not only create a strong driving force to promote sustainable tourism development, contributing to improving the capacity to welcome guests of Thai Nguyen but also supplement high-quality tourism products, meeting the needs of relaxation, entertainment and recreation of domestic and foreign visitors.

With an area of about 2,500 hectares with about 100 large and small islands, Nui Coc Lake is oriented to become a national tourist area capable of welcoming 2.5 million visitors by 2025 as planned by the Prime Minister in 2016. However, that ambitious plan is still mostly on paper and the resorts, luxury hotels, marinas or entertainment areas that many investors have proposed since the planning was approved are still only on paper, and one of the reasons why the projects cannot be implemented is poor infrastructure as well as complicated investment procedures that take time to do over and over again.

Although it took a lot of time and effort to complete the investment procedures, the beauty of Nui Coc Lake is still attractive enough to make a "love-sick guy" like Flamingo Holding not give up. For a long time, this group has been looking for tourist destinations with beautiful but unspoiled landscapes, which have not been exploited by any investors, to build international-class tourism complexes. Starting to develop Flamingo Dai Lai more than two decades ago when no one paid attention to Dai Lai irrigation lake in Vinh Phuc and creating a large-scale green and luxurious tourism complex adjacent to Hanoi, Flamingo Holding has successively explored new lands such as Cat Ba in Hai Phong, Hai Tien in Thanh Hoa, Tam Chuc in Ha Nam and Tan Trao in Tuyen Quang. And Flamingo Majestic Island Resort in Nui Coc Lake marks the next link in the chain of tourist areas under the Flamingo brand in the North.

Unique experiences in new lands

But, not only the special groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Tran Trong Binh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Flamingo Holding also revealed that "the group will bring to Nui Coc Lake a special resort ecosystem, a place where unique experiences never seen before converge."

In addition to the island resort, the group will build more than 100 villas on the hill, which are described as “presidential villas” worth millions of dollars. Owners or tourists staying at these villas will enjoy “6-star” amenities that are the first to appear in the northern mountainous region, as affirmed by the investor, including a private marina, island park, hot mineral onsen, forest bathing, sand bathing, and a team of high-class butlers.

Another special detail of the groundbreaking ceremony of the Flamingo Majestic Island Resort project is that the investor announced the detailed progress of the project completion within the next year, not only showing confidence in the development potential of the Thai Nguyen tourism market but also partly showing the financial potential to be able to implement the project without depending on the progress of capital mobilization from investors like most other tourism real estate projects.
