The Roblox game Grow a Garden has been making headlines lately. According to the platform, the game reached 21.3 million concurrent players on June 21. This number far surpasses Fortnite 's previous record of 14,343,880, set in November 2024.
Notably, this achievement also helped Roblox set a new record of more than 30 million concurrent players across the entire platform. To put that in perspective, Steam's highest concurrent player record was only 3.2 million (with PUBG: Battlegrounds 7 years ago). This means that Grow a Garden alone is 7 times larger than that number.
The appeal of the farm game comes from its simple gameplay of planting, harvesting and decorating, combined with social elements and unlimited creativity. Developer Splitting Point also constantly updates the game with new crops and items, encouraging players to visit their friends' gardens, trade and come back every day.
In addition, the viral factor on social networks also plays a big role. Tens of thousands of videos showing off gardens on TikTok and YouTube have created waves, motivating millions of people to download the game.

Roblox strategy consultant James Purell highlighted Grow a Garden 's achievements on LinkedIn, claiming the game had "broken every record in the gaming industry."
Before Grow a Garden launched, the concurrent player record on Roblox was just under 5 million. However, since the gardening simulator launched in March, and by May, it has quickly set a new standard for the platform.
From 5 million, then 7.3 million and 8.9 million concurrent players, Grow a Garden has continued to break its own records. By the end of May, the game had more than doubled PUBG 's record of 3.2 million concurrent players on Steam.
The success of the game is opening up a promising future, affirming the position of user-generated content (UGC). Now many publishers will have to ask the question of what AAA titles can do to compete with unique and powerful phenomena like Grow a Garden.
“The fact that Grow a Garden was developed by independent developers in a short time frame, even faster than the project approval process of major game studios (AAA), is becoming a significant concern for industry executives,” Mr. Purell commented.
Despite its impressive record, Grow a Garden has not been able to maintain its peak player count for long. Specifically, after reaching 21.3 million players on June 21, this number dropped to 7.6 million at 4 p.m. and 5.5 million at 5 p.m. the same day.
Over the past 14 days, the game has averaged 2.7 million concurrent players and has only surpassed 10 million twice. Despite this, Grow a Garden remains the highest-grossing game on the Roblox platform. In terms of lifetime visits, it holds the record for being the fastest Roblox experience to reach a billion visits, and has now surpassed 10 billion.
