Da Nang promotes cooperation with international online travel agents

According to Tan Van Vuong, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the city's tourism industry's increased cooperation with international OTAs is in line with the digital transformation trend and the increasingly diverse needs of global tourists. In 2024, the number of searches and bookings for services to Da Nang through OTAs increased by 30-35%, contributing to market expansion and attracting international tourists.

“In the first seven months of this year, Da Nang welcomed 4.2 million international visitors and 6.5 million domestic visitors. During the August 29th – September 2nd period alone, Da Nang received an average of 145 flights per day, a 26.5% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth is linked to changes in tourism behavior, with OTA platforms such as Traveloka, Booking.com, and Klook becoming effective channels for Da Nang to reach and attract tourists,” added Nguyen Thi Hong Tham, Director of the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Center.

The British magazine Time Out has voted Da Nang as one of the 8 most worthwhile destinations to visit in Asia in 2025. Da Nang is also among the top 10 Asian cities with the highest return visitor rates, as selected by Agoda; and ranks second among the 10 most searched-for domestic destinations during the September 2nd holiday this year, according to Booking.com statistics.

This success stems from Da Nang's tourism stimulus programs, including cooperation with OTAs. The campaign offering 6,000 vouchers for accommodation and entertainment services with Traveloka alone resulted in an 861% increase in traffic. Currently, over 70% of international tourists book services through OTA platforms, and this number is expected to continue to grow.

However, the lack of synchronized coordination with the city's event series, and the fact that many international OTAs do not have representative offices in Vietnam, makes cooperation difficult. Many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are not yet fully aware of the benefits of OTAs. The issue of information transparency persists, with cases where customers book services through OTAs but the services are unavailable upon arrival, while the data OTAs share with partners is not yet open data...

To effectively and optimally leverage the OTA platform for Da Nang tourism, at HorecFex Vietnam 2025, the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Center signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a long-term cooperation mechanism with leading international OTAs such as Klook Travel Technology Limited, Trip.com Vietnam, TikTok Vietnam Technology Co., Ltd., KKDAY Vietnam Co., Ltd., Yango Ads, etc.

Accordingly, the collaboration will be linked to long-term communication plans, rather than just promotional programs or impromptu media campaigns. This includes building joint communication campaigns (co-branding) to promote Da Nang according to each tourist season. Simultaneously, they will collaborate on developing a promotional schedule linked to major annual events such as the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF), the "Enjoy Da Nang" campaign, and the International Marathon.

Besides accommodation, air tickets, and transportation services, the city should promote new products such as green tourism, ecotourism, cultural tourism, heritage tourism, culinary tourism, and wellness tourism (body, mind, and spirit). These are the city's strengths and are also trends favored by international tourists.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Quynh - Founder and Chairman of HorecFex Vietnam, the signing of cooperation agreements between the Da Nang Tourism Center and leading OTAs at the HorecFex Vietnam 2025 event has opened up new avenues for the city's tourism, promoting digital transformation, expanding markets, and elevating the destination's position on the international map.
