Nearly 18,700 students absent from school due to flooding

(NLDO) - Prolonged heavy rain caused flooding in many areas in Vinh Linh district ( Quang Tri ), some schools were deeply submerged in water.

On the morning of October 28, the Departmentof Education and Training of Vinh Linh district, Quang Tri province, said that due to the impact of storm No. 6, on the same morning, about 18,700 students at 52 schools in the district were given a day off.

Yesterday, prolonged heavy rain caused floodwaters to rise, causing localized flooding at some schools in Vinh Linh district. By this morning, the water had receded in many places, but some schools in Vinh Son commune, Hien Thanh commune (Vinh Linh district)... were still flooded from 0.4 - 0.5m.

As of this morning, many schools in Vinh Linh district are cleaning up classrooms, repairing damage to facilities, and ensuring safety and hygiene before welcoming students back to school.

Previously, the Department of Education and Training of Quang Tri sent an official dispatch to schools requesting them to respond to floods and storm No. 6 (storm Trami).

The Department recommends closely and promptly monitoring forecasts and warnings of storm No. 6 and other dangerous weather conditions that may occur in the coming days; promptly and fully informing teachers and students to proactively take preventive measures to minimize damage.

Depending on the development of storms and heavy rains in each locality, schools and centers under the Department of Education and Training report and propose to the Department's leaders to decide whether to let preschool children, students, and trainees of affiliated units take time off from school.

The Department of Education and Training of districts, towns and cities coordinates with local schools to advise the Chairman of the District People's Committee to decide on allowing preschool children, primary and secondary school students in local schools to take time off from school.
