On May 28, in Ly Son island district ( Quang Ngai ), a Ly Son cross-sea swimming race (from Big Island to Small Island) was held, co-organized by the People's Committee of Ly Son District and Duong Chay Xanh Joint Stock Company.
This is the biggest swimming tournament on Ly Son Island ever, with nearly 250 athletes participating, including 10 former national swimming athletes and 10 foreign athletes.

In this tournament, the organizers divided the swimming distances into 3 categories: 5 km, 2 km and 1 km. The starting point is from the scenic To Vo gate on Big Island, then the athletes swim to Small Island (An Binh village, Ly Son island district).

To help the athletes, the Organizing Committee has planted 50 national flags along the swimming route. Thanks to that, the athletes can easily observe, orient the swimming route and add to the excitement. The Organizing Committee also mobilized dozens of boats and volunteers to support rescue, search and rescue, and guide the swimmers along the swimming route.
For the first time, many athletes participated in the Ly Son sea swimming competition.

The 5km swim is considered the most difficult, because during the cross-ocean swim, athletes must swim through areas with many different currents in the sea between the two islands.
However, thanks to the crystal clear sea water that allows you to see the bottom, during the swim, the athletes were able to admire the nearly 3 nautical mile long coral reef from Big Island to Small Island; then swim through the wide basins of two tens of millions of years old volcanic craters under the sea. Therefore, most of the athletes were excited and eager to conquer this beautiful, poetic swimming route on Ly Son Island.
According to Ms. Pham Thuy Vy, a former national swimmer who participated in the 5km swimming race, the interesting highlight of the race was the clear sea water, where you could see schools of fish swimming below and even jellyfish.
