Meet the female student who spoke up about the 'teacher's silence and not teaching for more than 3 months'

In March 2018, the story of female student Pham Song Toan, then a student of class 11A1, Long Thoi High School, Nha Be District, burst into tears at a meeting with outstanding students and leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training when she reported that her math teacher had been silent for more than 3 months, not saying a word to the students in class, only writing on the board, caused strong emotions in public opinion.

After that, along with the silent disciplinary measures against teachers and related people, the Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee at that time directed the Department of Education and Training to quickly transfer the student to another school to avoid negative impacts on his studies. Fortunately, with the sympathy of the leaders of Albert Einstein Primary, Secondary and High School in Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City, they quietly (without media, without letting the student contact the press to avoid psychological disturbance for the student) awarded Pham Song Toan a full scholarship because of his "integrity and courage" in line with the school'seducational philosophy, sponsored the cost of school bus transportation, and boarding meals for the rest of his high school years at the school.

In November 2023, Pham Song Toan met us again in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, near her workplace. With a bright, intelligent face and a gentle voice, the once upright and brave female student has now graduated from university with honors. The 22-year-old girl is currently an intern at a high-end Italian jewelry brand.

A period of more than 5 years is not long, nor short, just enough to help Pham Song Toan mature and become stronger, and for the female student to step by step towards her dreams and aspirations ahead. Many things can change, but there is one thing Pham Song Toan is sure of: "I do not regret what has passed". “Five years ago, I was very panicked, wondering why my image and story were all over newspapers and social networks in just one afternoon. There were times when I didn’t dare go on social networks to read or see what people were saying about me. But relatives, true educators, uncles and aunts in many agencies, departments, city leaders, especially my family, were always by my side, listening, sharing, encouraging, protecting me, helping me calm down, reducing anxiety, stress and pressure that seemed impossible to overcome, helping me believe that tomorrow will be okay,” the female student recalled.

Pham Song Toan's house is near his old school. In April 2018, after moving to the new school, the female student still walked through the old school gate every day to get to the bus stop. Passing by the school where she had been attached for nearly 2 years, she had very special emotions.

True to the name given by her parents, Pham Song Toan has always strived to study and participate in sports and extracurricular activities since childhood. In particular, the female student has a strong influence from her father - a former literature teacher - who is always straightforward, upright, and strong. Always trying to achieve the set goals and doing everything carefully, harmoniously, and thoroughly.

From grade 1 to grade 12, Song Toan was an excellent student. In primary and secondary school, he was the leader of the Youth Union. When studying at Long Thoi High School, Nha Be District, Song Toan was the Secretary of the Youth Union, with excellent academic performance in all subjects. When he transferred to the new school at the end of the second semester of grade 11, Pham Song Toan integrated very quickly, he developed his ability in all subjects, including English, and was able to develop his talent as an MC - a program host. Song Toan ran for the position of President of the school's Student Council and was approved by the students at the new school.

I participated in many clubs and extracurricular activities here and left an impression on all the teachers and friends. And especially, no one once mentioned Pham Song Toan as the female student who spoke up as the "silent teacher" at her old school. Pham Song Toan has just officially graduated from the Marketing major, Faculty of Business Administration, Ton Duc Thang University, Ho Chi Minh City with a degree of honors. Previously, since September 2023, the female student has passed hundreds of other applications and rigorous tests to become a marketing and communications intern for a high-end Italian jewelry brand. In addition, the talented female student is still carrying out many personal projects, working as a bilingual MC, and as a host (program leader) at events of prestigious organizations. "When I read the information that a very large Italian jewelry company was recruiting interns, I immediately registered. This is my dream workplace, I will work in an extremely professional environment. Everything requires meticulousness, accuracy, and meticulousness, but that is also my personality and criteria when doing any job," Pham Song Toan shared.

The 22-year-old female student confided that since childhood, she only studied at small schools near her home, in Nha Be District, not the top schools in the city center.
