Leveraging technology to optimize travel experiences

Balancing solo travel and family travel

For Vietnamese Gen Z, close relationships play an important role in how they choose destinations and how they experience each journey. This generation wants to travel to strengthen personal relationships. Social media and digital relationships play an important role in helping them make decisions about their travel. 64% of Gen Z respondents in Vietnam said they tend to travel with family members, 58% with their parents and 44% with their spouse. 71% are inspired to travel by information shared by friends or relatives on social media. 56% will consult friends and family for more ideas and inspiration for their trip.

Vietnamese Gen Z is not afraid to travel alone. This is shown by the number of 52% of respondents saying they have traveled alone in the past 6 months and 72% are planning to travel alone in the next 12 months.

Smart Spending: Optimize costs while still ensuring a unique travel experience

Although Gen Z considers travel an indispensable part of life, they are still very concerned about spending wisely. They often travel during the off-season to save costs and choose unique, one-of-a-kind experiences for their trips.

In 2024, 62% of Vietnamese Gen Z travelers surveyed shared that they tend to choose short domestic trips lasting from 1 to 4 nights. 52% agree that the "value for money" factor is quite important when choosing a destination. Considering financial factors, 62% choose to travel during the low season to save costs. 63% "hunt" for discount codes from loyalty programs to optimize costs as much as possible. When considering their travel budget in 2024, 69% want to choose destinations with unique travel experiences such as skydiving or hot air ballooning.

Three criteria when choosing a place to stay: Comfortable, familiar and convenient

Gen Z Vietnam tends to repeat habits, with 80% admitting that they have returned to a place they liked and stayed in before, and 66% are looking for hotels to stay in for trips this year. This generation wants a simple, fast experience and does not have many obstacles when booking many different services at the same time.

Specifically, 38% of respondents aged 12-27 in Vietnam shared that they often book sightseeing and experience activities before booking accommodation. 60% often book airline tickets before booking accommodation. When asked about booking tickets to attend events, 59% of GenZ respondents tended to book tickets before booking accommodation.

Recreational and mental relaxation travel is becoming more and more popular.

Gen Z travelers are more concerned about their physical and mental health. According to a survey, 61% of Gen Z travelers in Vietnam said that the main reason they travel is to relax, and 29% want to connect more deeply with themselves. This explains the rise of wellness-focused tourism, with a trend toward destinations that offer services such as yoga, meditation, and spa treatments.
