In general, the live hog market on April 26 showed a trend of keeping prices stable across the board, but some localities in all three regions still recorded a slight decrease of VND 1,000/kg.
The total pig herd has decreased, making it difficult for pig prices to "cool down"
Currently, the price of live pigs in the province is fluctuating between 73-75 thousand VND/kg, nearly 20 thousand VND/kg higher than the same period last year.
According to the Dong Nai Livestock Association, since the beginning of the year, the price of live pigs has been consistently higher than the same period last year. The reason is that the supply of live pigs cannot meet the demand, and the total livestock herd has decreased due to the epidemic affecting the increase and restoration of the herd.
Specifically, by the end of March 2025, the province's total pig herd was only over 1.9 million, down 8% compared to the same period last year. Therefore, authorities and farmers have focused on disease prevention and control, applying disease-safe livestock farming to protect livestock. In particular, quarantine, slaughter control, transportation of livestock, poultry, and animal products in and out of the province are strictly controlled and monitored. Localities also focus on management, inspection, and supervision from livestock facilities to transportation and business activities; review vaccination work, count the total livestock and poultry herd in the locality, circulation hubs, and effectively implement disease prevention and control in the area, according to Dong Nai newspaper.
