Northern pig price

On the morning of May 12, the Northern region maintained stable prices, continuing to trade around 67,000 - 68,000 VND/kg.

Provinces such as Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Nam Dinh, Ha Nam and Ninh Binh are currently purchasing live pigs at 67,000 VND/kg, while the remaining localities still maintain the price of 68,000 VND/kg.

Pig price in Central Highlands

In the Central Highlands region, the price of live pigs also decreased slightly by VND 1,000/kg in Dak Lak and Binh Thuan , bringing the price to VND 72,000/kg, equivalent to Lam Dong and Ninh Thuan.

Current prices in this area range from 67,000 - 72,000 VND/kg, depending on the locality and meat quality.

Southern pig price

In the Southern region, the price of live pigs has decreased by VND1,000/kg in Long An , down to VND74,000/kg.

This also means that the price threshold of 75,000 VND/kg is no longer present in this market. The current price ranges from 73,000 - 75,000 VND/kg, depending on the region and product quality.

Experts say the market is still in a "waiting" phase as purchasing power at traditional markets, supermarkets and distribution channels has not shown signs of improvement.

According to some large livestock enterprises, without support from export activities or domestic distribution systems, pig prices may continue to be stable or have small adjustments in some areas due to the impact of short-term supply and demand.

Currently, the market shows signs of balance between supply and demand, but if retail purchasing power improves, pig prices may increase again in the second half of May.

Long An Radio and Television reported that on May 9, Vice Chairman of Long An Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Lam requested localities in the province to step up measures to prevent and control animal diseases.

Accordingly, provincial leaders emphasized the need to ensure that the vaccination rate for diseases such as avian influenza, foot-and-mouth disease, etc. reaches over 80% of the total livestock herd at the time of vaccination.

Since the beginning of the year, Long An province has recorded 21 households with African swine fever, forcing them to destroy 738 sick pigs. In addition, a case of avian influenza has also appeared in a household, causing 2,200 poultry to be destroyed. In addition, the province has also recorded a case of rabies in a dog, which was promptly treated.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested districts, towns and cities to urgently deploy disease surveillance measures and strictly handle violations related to the transportation, trading and consumption of sick or dead animals, preventing the risk of disease spread.

Authorities and local governments are required to step up vaccination against dangerous infectious diseases such as avian influenza, rabies, African swine fever, foot-and-mouth disease, lumpy skin disease, blue ear disease, anthrax, etc. At the same time, it is necessary to organize additional vaccinations for livestock at high risk or nearing the end of their immunity period.

Along with that, the province also directed to strengthen control of the transportation of animals, livestock breeds and livestock products in border areas, trails, openings, rivers, etc. to prevent pathogens from outside into the province.
