World rice price today May 15, 2025
According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), Vietnam’s rice export prices are currently stable. 5% broken rice costs $397 per ton, about $13 per ton lower than the same type of rice from Thailand but $8 to $16 per ton higher than rice from India and Pakistan.
For 25% broken rice, the price is currently at $368/ton, $17/ton lower than Thailand, but still $3 to $11/ton higher than India and Pakistan. 100% broken rice is at $321/ton, equal to Pakistan but $26/ton lower than Thailand.
Regarding the global outlook, the latest report from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) said that world rice production this year is forecast to reach 538.7 million tons, up 1 million tons compared to last year. The increase mainly comes from India and China. However, consumption demand is also forecast to increase to 538.8 million tons, slightly exceeding supply.
Vietnam is forecast to become the world’s second-largest rice importer by 2025, with an estimated output of around 4 million tonnes. This is due to a reduction in domestic cultivation areas and increased demand for rice imports from Cambodia. By 2026, imports may increase slightly to 4.1 million tonnes.
In terms of exports, Vietnam is expected to rise to second place globally in 2025 with an export output of about 7.9 million tons, surpassing Thailand (7 million tons) and only behind India - a country forecast to export up to 24 million tons of rice.
