Domestic rice market
On August 24, the domestic rice market had a slight adjustment. Some raw rice varieties decreased by 100 VND/kg, while basic rice varieties remained unchanged. Last week, rice prices increased at the beginning of the week but gradually decreased towards the end of the week.
Rice prices in the Mekong Delta
According to the update in An Giang , CL 555 raw rice decreased by 100 VND/kg, down to 8,300 - 8,350 VND/kg. OM 380 raw rice remained at 8,200 - 8,300 VND/kg; IR 504 fluctuated at 8,500 - 8,600 VND/kg. OM 18 and OM 5451 rice continued at 9,500 - 9,700 VND/kg. OM 380 finished rice fluctuated at 8,800 - 9,000 VND/kg; IR 504 was around 9,500 - 9,700 VND/kg.
By-products fluctuate little, OM 5451 broken rice is at 7,400 - 7,500 VND/kg; bran fluctuates at 8,000 - 9,000 VND/kg.
Local transactions
Rice supply to warehouses remains low, purchasing power is slow. In An Giang and Dong Thap, rice is arriving sporadically, transactions are quiet, and prices are stable. In Sa Dec, goods are still arriving at the ports, but demand is weak, and prices have changed little. In Tien Giang , the supply is low, and the market remains in a state of standstill.
In retail markets, rice prices remained unchanged from yesterday. Nang Nhen rice remained at the highest price of VND28,000/kg. Huong Lai was VND22,000/kg, and regular rice was VND13,000-14,000/kg. Long-grain Thai fragrant rice fluctuated at VND20,000-22,000/kg, Japanese rice was VND22,000/kg, and Jasmine was VND16,000-18,000/kg.
Fresh rice price at the field
Fresh OM 5451 rice fluctuates at 5,900 - 6,000 VND/kg; OM 18 from 6,000 - 6,200 VND/kg. Dai Thom 8 rice is at 6,100 - 6,200 VND/kg; IR 50404 from 5,700 - 5,900 VND/kg. Nang Hoa 9 also remains at 6,000 - 6,200 VND/kg.
In many localities, the end-of-season rice is still scarce. In Dong Thap and Tay Ninh, new transactions are sparse. In An Giang and Can Tho, there are also few sellers, traders are buying sparingly. In Ca Mau , ST rice prices remain stable, while other types are stable.
Export market
Vietnam's rice export prices on August 24 remained unchanged from yesterday. According to the Vietnam Food Association, 5% broken rice was at $399/ton; 25% broken rice was $368/ton; and 100% broken rice was $339/ton.
Export rice prices have been on an upward trend this week thanks to limited domestic supply and stable international demand. Vietnam continues to maintain its competitive advantage in the high-quality rice market, despite the Philippines temporarily suspending imports of regular rice.
