An Giang makes a breakthrough with high-quality, low-emission rice.
In the context of complex climate change, the need to reduce emissions while improving the quality of agricultural products is becoming increasingly urgent. An Giang is aggressively implementing the project "Sustainable development of 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030".
In the Autumn-Winter 2025 crop season, the project recorded many positive results, creating a foundation for the province to accelerate in 2026. According to the plan, An Giang will have 142,255 hectares of rice participating in the project in 2025, aiming for 351,362 hectares by 2030.
Practical implementation shows that sustainable farming criteria are spreading strongly across the fields. The area applying 3 criteria reached over 150,500 hectares; 4 criteria reached nearly 108,800 hectares; and applying all 5 criteria, including straw collection, reached over 43,400 hectares.
Simultaneously, An Giang province has established 55 demonstration models covering nearly 1,500 hectares, while also replicating many more models at the grassroots level. The results show that production costs decreased by an average of over 4.1 million VND/ha, productivity increased by 0.78 tons/ha, and profits increased by over 9.3 million VND/ha.
The project has also brought about significant changes in production organization as farmers participate in cooperatives and associations, linking with approximately 41 large enterprises, contributing to stabilizing output, increasing the value of rice grains, and gradually meeting the requirements of the export market.
