Since the beginning of this year, the price of the PlayStation 5 (PS5) game console has dropped quite a bit compared to when it was first launched. According to a survey by Zing , the price of PlayStation 5 imported from Korea on the market has decreased by more than 40%, to about 11-15 million VND depending on the version.
In particular, some stores also apply promotional programs for the Digital version, bringing the price of this game console to less than 10.7 million VND.
Mr. Cong Thang, representative of a technology equipment store in Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City, said that the price of imported PlayStation 5 is now quite different from that of hand-carried goods. According to Mr. Thang, the main reason is that the source of game console models has become more abundant.
"The source of goods from countries like Korea and Japan to import sugar into Vietnam is quite simple with very fast shipping time. Therefore, the current agents compete quite fiercely on price," said Mr. Thang.
The price of the PlayStation 5 Digital version is less than 11 million VND.
Besides, according to Mr. Thang, the trend of exchanging used PlayStation 5 consoles among Vietnamese gamers also partly affects the market.
"The gaming community in Vietnam is very fond of used PlayStations. This is also part of the reason why dealers are affected besides supply," this person added.
At the time of its launch in the US market, the listed price of PlayStation 5 ranged from 399-499 USD , equivalent to about 9.3-11.7 million VND depending on the version. However, the limited number of products caused the price of this game console to increase when it arrived in Vietnam.
Particularly at the time of shortage, the hand-carried Standard version of PS5 was sold by many dealers for more than 30 million VND.
By 2022, the PS5 fever has not cooled down when Sony Vietnam opens sales of genuine products. In the first 3 online sales, Sony's homepage quickly crashed due to overload. Many users still have to spend 20-22 million VND if they want to own a PS5.
