Durian prices today, May 25, 2025, in the three main production regions of the West (Mekong Delta), Southeast and Central Highlands show a market picture with a slight upward trend, reflecting a recovery after a period of price decline in the previous days (May 22-24). In general, durian prices in these regions fluctuate from the lowest level of VND 25,000/kg (Ri6 type C) to the highest level of VND 125,000/kg (Musang King type A), showing a clear differentiation between popular and premium durian varieties.
In the West, Ri6 durian prices ranged from VND28,000 to VND60,000 per kilogram, with VIP varieties stable at VND60,000 per kilogram, while Thai durians ranged from VND45,000 to VND90,000 per kilogram and Musang King held the premium position at VND90,000 to VND125,000 per kilogram. The Southeast recorded similar Ri6 durian prices, ranging from VND25,000 to VND60,000 per kilogram, but Thai durians had a wider price range, especially for type A (VND72,000 to VND80,000 per kilogram), indicating strong demand for this variety. Meanwhile, the Central Highlands has slightly lower prices, with Ri6 durian grade A only from 48,000 - 52,000 VND/kg and Thai durian grade A from 72,000 - 75,000 VND/kg, possibly due to limitations in production scale or logistics costs.
Compared to other regions, the Southeast region stands out with higher prices for Thai durian varieties (A, B), reflecting its proximity to major consumer markets such as Ho Chi Minh City. The West, with its large output, maintains competitive and stable prices, especially for VIP and Musang King varieties. The Central Highlands, despite lower prices, still shows signs of a slight increase in Thai durian varieties, signaling an improvement in market demand. Notably, premium durian varieties such as Ri6 VIP, Thai VIP A and Musang King maintain stable prices over the days, demonstrating the sustainable appeal of the high-quality segment, which is less affected by market fluctuations.
Today's market trend shows a recovery after a slight decline on May 22-23. The slight increase in Thai durian prices (grades A, B, C) in all three regions, especially in the West and Southeast, may stem from increased domestic demand or adjustments from buyers to stimulate supply. However, this price increase is still slight, not creating a major breakthrough, showing that the market is in a period of gradual stabilization.
In the short term, durian prices are expected to continue to maintain a slight upward trend if domestic and export demand remains stable. However, factors such as weather, harvest output and price fluctuations in the international market need to be monitored to more accurately assess the long-term trend. Currently, the domestic durian market is showing positive signs, especially in key production areas such as the West and Southeast, where prices clearly reflect recovery and growth potential.
Durian price news today 05/25/2025
Durian exports to China are facing many challenges. In the first quarter of 2025, export volume decreased by 71.3% and value decreased by 74%, causing Vietnam's market share in this market to decrease from 42.1% to 28.2%. The main reasons include the decline in demand from China, strong competition from Thailand, Cambodia and Malaysia, along with 100% inspection of Vietnamese shipments. Uneven durian quality and limited number of approved growing area codes and packing facilities are also major barriers.
To address this, the Government issued Official Dispatch 71 dated May 23, 2025, focusing on promoting sustainable durian production and export. The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment was assigned to coordinate with the General Administration of Customs of China to unify the inspection process, recognize growing area codes and packaging facilities, and increase human resources and quarantine equipment at border gates. The Ministry of Finance was asked to prioritize fast customs clearance, propose financial support, and promote preservation and deep processing technology. The Ministry of Public Security is responsible for handling growing area code fraud and ensuring supply chain security.
At a conference in Dak Lak on May 24, 2025, the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection proposed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade promote modern consumption channels, build a stable distribution network, and enhance trade promotion. The Ministry also supports businesses in complying with import regulations to maintain market share.
