In the Mekong Delta, the price of Ri6 type A is purchased at 48,000 - 52,000 VND/kg, type B from 35,000 - 38,000 VND/kg, and VIP type fluctuates around 60,000 VND/kg.
Grade A durian in this area is currently priced at 72,000 - 77,000 VND/kg, while VIP grade reaches 90,000 VND/kg.
In the Southeast and Central Highlands, Ri6 and Thai durian prices generally remained stable.
Ri6 A ranges from 48,000 - 54,000 VND/kg in the Southeast and 48,000 - 52,000 VND/kg in the Central Highlands. Sau Thai A in these two regions costs 73,000 - 78,000 VND/kg and 70,000 - 75,000 VND/kg, respectively.
Along with stable prices, the durian market is facing many major challenges from China - the main export market. From January 10, 2025, China requires all durian shipments imported from Vietnam and Thailand to have a certificate of inspection for Cadmium residue and auramine O (auramine O).
In Dak Lak province – the durian capital of the Central Highlands with an estimated output of 380,000 – 400,000 tons in 2025 – this requirement is causing concern for farmers and businesses. Some shipments have been returned due to residue of banned substances, affecting reputation and export activities.
The Dak Lak Durian Association recently sent a document to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development requesting the issuance of public guidelines for testing activities and the re-signing of the Protocol with China, which will expire in July 2025. In addition, the units also proposed establishing codes for growing areas, packaging facilities, and quality standards for exported durian.
