In many localities, farmers are in the middle of the harvest season. However, heavy rains at the beginning of the season have raised concerns about the phenomenon of hard rice, affecting the quality of the fruit.
In Lam Dong , farmers are instructed on drainage techniques, blocking shoots and taking care of the fruit at the right stage to limit the durian from having mushy flesh and bitter segments. Lessons from previous seasons have helped growers change their farming methods and protect yields.
Durian exports increase for two consecutive months
According to the General Department of Customs, durian exports in June reached 438 million USD, up 8.4% over the same period. China remained the main market, reaching 412 million USD (up 12%).
Other strong growth markets include: Taiwan: 26 million USD, up 124%; Papua New Guinea: 20 million USD, up 242%; Malaysia alone imported 1.1 million USD of durian from Vietnam.
It is expected that by the end of July, the total export turnover of durian will reach about 1.2 billion USD, lower than last year but recovering strongly thanks to the international market becoming more active again.
