Southeast Asian newspapers mourn the passing of referee Tran Dinh Thinh

(Dan Tri) - Southeast Asian media was shocked by the sudden passing of referee Tran Dinh Thinh. This is a great loss for the Vietnamese referee community in particular and Vietnamese football community in general.

ASEAN Football website reported this morning (August 4): "Vietnamese football referee Tran Dinh Thinh passed away after suffering a stroke during a physical test."

“The tragedy happened on the morning of August 3, during a routine physical test, preparing for the new 2025-2026 season, referee Tran Dinh Thinh suddenly collapsed on the track, in his final round.

Referee Tran Dinh Thinh showed signs of difficulty breathing and dizziness before collapsing on the field. Medical staff on site quickly took Mr. Thinh to the emergency room,” ASEAN Football added.

According to ASEAN Football, the relevant parties tried their best to rescue the referee from Dong Nai , but luck did not smile.

The Southeast Asian football information page shared: "Despite the best efforts of the medical team, referee Tran Dinh Thinh still could not survive."

“The sudden passing of this referee has shocked the Vietnamese football world and made them feel sorry for Mr. Thinh. Referee Tran Dinh Thinh was born in 1982, Mr. Thinh won the Silver Whistle award at V-League 2024-2025”, these are the lines written on the ASEAN Football page.

ASEAN Football also wrote emotional lines, as the last words for referee Tran Dinh Thinh: "Please rest in peace referee Tran Dinh Thinh, his contributions to Vietnamese football will never be forgotten."

Also this morning, the homepage of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) wrote: “During more than a decade of working with national football tournaments, referee Tran Dinh Thinh has always shown composure, seriousness and courage in assigned matches.

His passing is a loss not only to his family and friends but also to a generation of referees striving for the development of Vietnamese football."

"VFF and VPF would like to send our deepest condolences to the family of referee Tran Dinh Thinh. We will work with the family to take care of the funeral, as a way of expressing gratitude and recognition for referee Tran Dinh Thinh's contributions to national football," the VFF homepage shared its condolences to referee Tran Dinh Thinh and his family.
