According to information from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development , Vietnam is still one of the leading durian exporters to China. However, Vietnam's durian market share in this market has decreased significantly, from 42% to 28% this year. This is a worrying signal, indicating the risk of losing the market if the durian industry does not make timely improvements.

Currently, the Southeast region is in the durian harvest season, expected to last until August. Meanwhile, the Central Highlands is preparing to enter the crop season from July to October, while the Southwest is almost finished with the harvest.

One of the biggest challenges facing the durian industry is the lack of a sustainable and safe production process. Developing and implementing uniform standards from cultivation to export is becoming an urgent task.

In particular, in specialized durian growing areas, the quality control system is still very limited. Quality control work sometimes lacks transparency, leading to a situation where some shipments, despite being tested, still do not meet standards. In addition, the issue of export code management is still loose, causing code counterfeiting to still occur.

To address these limitations, the durian industry needs to quickly standardize steps such as the use of fertilizers, pesticides, quality control and ensuring clear traceability. At the same time, it is necessary to reorganize production according to the linked value chain model, limit uncontrolled expansion of acreage and promote the search for new export markets to reduce dependence on a single market.
