Pepper price today July 17 in the world market
In the world market, based on quotes from export enterprises and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) has updated the prices of all types of pepper traded in the international market on July 16 (Hanoi time) as follows:
Indonesian Lampung black pepper prices remained unchanged from yesterday at $7,240/ton. In addition, Muntok white pepper prices remained unchanged from yesterday at $10,092/ton.
Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 price decreased slightly compared to yesterday at 5,800 USD/ton (down 0.43%).
Malaysia’s ASTA black pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $8,900/ton. Meanwhile, the country’s ASTA white pepper price remained stable from yesterday at $11,750/ton.
Prices of all types of pepper in Vietnam are stable compared to yesterday. Of which, the price of Vietnamese black pepper 500 gr/l is 6,440 USD/ton; 550 gr/l is 6,570 USD/ton.
Similarly, Vietnam's white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $9,150/ton.
In the short term, domestic pepper prices are forecast to remain high. The reason is that inventories are currently low, while export enterprises are actively purchasing to prepare for orders in the third quarter.
In addition, reduced output in some major exporting countries along with the recovery of consumer demand after a sluggish period at the beginning of the year is also creating positive momentum for the market.
On July 9, 2025, when the US announced a 50% countervailing duty on Brazilian pepper, the market reacted immediately, with world pepper prices falling by $100 to $200 per ton. If prices in Brazil continue to fail to improve, the Brazilian Spice Association may recommend that farmers suspend sales and stockpile, as they have done in the past few weeks, in order to stimulate prices to recover.
In Vietnam, more than 124,000 tons of pepper were exported in the first 6 months of 2025. This has caused domestic inventories to decrease significantly, especially when this year's crop is predicted to be the lowest in many years.
In addition, the next harvest is still eight months away, while current inventories have hit their lowest levels in five to six years, making the market more sensitive to supply and demand fluctuations.
According to information from Ptexim, the US reciprocal tariffs are still under negotiation and are expected to take effect from August 1, 2025. However, the possibility of delaying implementation or adjusting is still possible, depending on trade developments between the parties involved.
This lack of clarity on tax policy is causing many importers to suspend purchases, contributing to a rapid decline in global inventories, especially in the US and EU. If the tariff situation is clarified in the near future, market demand is likely to recover strongly.
