Domestic pepper prices updated on the morning of May 2, 2025

On the morning of May 2, domestic pepper prices remained stable due to the market temporarily suspending trading during the holiday. The world market, after many previous increases, has tended to stabilize and move sideways.

According to experts, with the current upward trend and stable market demand, domestic pepper prices are expected to remain stable or increase slightly in the coming time. In the short term, pepper prices are expected to continue to maintain a slight upward trend, with an increase of 500 to 1,500 VND/kg in key areas.

This is supported by the following factors: Pepper growing area has decreased as farmers have switched to growing other crops such as durian and coffee. In addition, high production costs and adverse weather have affected pepper productivity and growing area. Major consumer markets such as the US, EU and China have increased imports, pushing up pepper prices.

Global pepper output in 2025 is forecast to decrease compared to 2024, marking the fourth consecutive year of decline since 2022. This reflects the fact that pepper is no longer the main crop for many farmers.

IPC predicts that global pepper production in 2025 may decrease by 6.1%, while consumer demand continues to increase. Black pepper prices in major exporting countries tend to increase compared to the previous year, creating favorable conditions for producers, but at the same time creating additional cost pressure for importers and processing enterprises.

By the end of the first quarter of 2025, Brazil's pepper exports recorded 23,081 tons, with a turnover of 145.4 million USD, a sharp increase of 25.8% in volume and 130.1% in value over the same period last year. This increase was mainly due to exports to Vietnam increasing 2.2 times in volume and 4.2 times in value over the same period.
