This year, thanks to the positive financial situation, the Nobel Foundation has decided to increase the prize value by 1 million Swedish crowns compared to last year, to 11 million crowns (equivalent to 986,000 USD).

The Nobel Foundation announced on September 15 that this year's Nobel Prize winner will receive a prize of 11 million Swedish crowns (equivalent to 986,000 USD), an increase of 1 million Swedish crowns compared to last year.
According to the Nobel Foundation, the value of the Nobel Prize in recent years has been adjusted up or down depending on the financial situation of the foundation. This year, the foundation decided to increase the value of the prize thanks to its positive financial situation.
In 2012, the prize was reduced from 10 million crowns to 8 million crowns due to the Nobel Foundation's need to strengthen its finances. It was then increased to 9 million crowns in 2017 and 10 million crowns in 2020.
The Swedish crown has lost 30% of its value against the euro in the past decade. The 2013 awards for achievements in science, literature and peace were worth $1.2 million, despite the prize money being 8 million crowns at the time.
The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine will be the first to be announced this year on October 2. The winners of the Physics, Chemistry, Literature and Peace Prizes will be announced in the following days.
