In the morning trading session of August 18, the central exchange rate of the Vietnamese Dong against the USD was listed by the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) at 25,245 VND/USD, down 4 VND compared to the previous session. Compared to the beginning of the year, the central exchange rate has increased by more than 910 VND, equivalent to a net increase of 3.7%. With a fluctuation range of 5% according to the central exchange rate, the floor/ceiling exchange rates that commercial banks are allowed to trade today are 23,982 VND/USD and 26,507 VND/USD, respectively.
The reference USD exchange rate at the State Bank of Vietnam was also adjusted down by 4 VND in both buying and selling directions, to 24,033-26,457 VND/USD (buying - selling).
At commercial banks, the USD price today recorded a strong increase, reaching a new record high.
Techcombank listed the USD buying price at VND26,018 and the selling price at VND26,507, applicable to denominations of 1-2 USD. This is the maximum selling price within the allowed range of the State Bank today.

Bank USD price exceeds 26,500 VND, highest ever.
Meanwhile, the USD price at VietinBank increased to 26,107 - 26,467 VND/USD (buy - sell), an increase of 20 VND in both buying and selling.
At Vietcombank , the USD price increased by 30 VND in both buying and selling directions, raising the USD cash buying price to 26,080 VND/USD, and the selling price to 26,470 VND/USD.
Similarly, the USD price at BIDV also increased by 30 VND in both directions, to 26,110-26,470 VND/USD (buy - sell).
Sacombank also increased the USD price to 26,101-26,461 VND/USD (buy - sell), 21 VND more expensive in both buying and selling.
Thus, compared to the beginning of the year, the USD selling price on commercial banks has increased by more than 900 VND, equivalent to a net increase of more than 3.5%.
At the same time, the USD price on the free market also recorded a slight increase. Foreign exchange points in Hanoi are commonly trading at 26,450 - 26,505 VND/USD, an increase of 20 VND for buying and 5 VND for selling compared to August 15.
Meanwhile, the US Dollar Index (a measure of the greenback's strength against other major currencies) is currently at 97.95 points, up 0.1% from the previous session.
The US dollar was little changed as investors watched the meeting between US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, while waiting for information from the Jackson Hole Symposium for more clues on the direction of the US Federal Reserve's monetary policy.
