According to Kitco, the world gold price recorded at 4:30 a.m. today, Vietnam time, was at 3,209.36 USD/ounce. Today's gold price increased by 0.91% compared to yesterday. Converted according to the USD exchange rate on the free market (26,496 VND/USD), the world gold price is about 102.5 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the price of SJC gold bars is about 15.7 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.

Gold prices plunged to their lowest level in more than a month as investors awaited key US inflation data to gauge the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy. Meanwhile, easing US-China trade tensions also reduced gold’s appeal as a safe haven.

The U.S. dollar index (.DXY) fell 0.1%, making dollar-priced gold cheaper for buyers holding other currencies.

Data released on the day showed that the US producer price index (PPI) unexpectedly fell in April, while retail sales growth slowed. Earlier in the week, a report also recorded lower-than-expected consumer inflation in April.

Currently, the market is pricing in a possible interest rate cut by the US Federal Reserve (Fed) in September. A rate cut would increase the appeal of gold, a non-yielding asset.

“The data just released is opening up more room for the Fed to cut interest rates, and dovish expectations are becoming more evident in the market,” said Peter Grant, vice president and senior metals strategist at Zaner Metals.

Mr. Grant also emphasized that President Putin's failure to attend peace talks in Türkiye has reduced expectations of progress in reaching an agreement to end the conflict with Ukraine - a factor that is contributing to supporting gold prices.

Specifically, Mr. Putin sent a low-level delegation to attend the round of negotiations with Ukraine, rejecting Kyiv's call to meet directly with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Türkiye.

Analysts say investors are still cautious as global trade tensions show no signs of ending completely, even though the US and China have reached a temporary agreement on tariffs for 90 days.

In addition to gold, spot silver prices rose 0.2% to $32.26 an ounce, palladium prices rose 1% to $986.15, and platinum rose 1.4% to $964.32 an ounce.

The palladium market, which was in a supply deficit from 2012 to 2024, will return to balance this year, according to a report by Johnson Matthey, due to falling demand due to a decline in gasoline vehicle production and a surge in recycling activity in China.
