As of now, the spot gold price is recorded to have increased slightly by 0.58% compared to the beginning of last week. These developments show that the market is struggling and has not yet determined a new direction, while both the long-term uptrend and the possibility of a short-term adjustment have a basis for development.

Sean Lusk, co-head of hedging at Walsh Trading, said he was surprised that gold prices did not fall further in the current environment. However, he said geopolitical factors such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict have investors wary, especially over the weekend. Without unexpected developments from the conflicts, the possibility of gold prices rising sharply in the short term is not high.

Lusk said the gold market is in unprecedented territory, and that retail investors who have recently entered the market should be cautious as they head into the end of the month and quarter. Without fresh momentum, buying power could wane and long-term investors will lose the patience to keep prices high.

Kevin Grady, president of Phoenix Futures and Options, said one of the reasons gold has remained so high is because of concerns about the US credit rating. While no one thinks the US will default, the mere possibility of that has made investors more interested in alternative investments like gold.

In the short term, Grady believes that gold prices will hold the lows set in May, unless there is a major change from upcoming trade agreements. He believes that if the US reaches a deal with China, the impact on gold prices will be much larger than if the deal is with countries like Vietnam. In addition, US government bond yields are also an important factor that investors need to monitor closely, as this is a big indicator of sentiment and interest rate expectations.

Many long-term investors are waiting on the sidelines, and will only be ready to buy gold when prices fall to lows like the April or May lows. For now, they need a clearer signal about the market's direction.

Market attention now turns to inflation data, with May CPI due next week. If CPI comes in higher than expected, the dollar could rise and dampen expectations for a Fed rate cut, putting pressure on gold. Conversely, if inflation is weaker than expected, gold could find support.

Grady believes that energy prices are a key factor in the current inflation structure. When energy prices fall, inflation cools and other commodities fall as well. Therefore, gold prices in the coming period will react quite clearly to the development of these figures.

Gold Price Forecast

On the positive side, Mr. Rich Checkan, President and COO of asset consulting firm Asset Strategies International, believes that gold prices are being supported by bullish momentum.

He predicts gold prices will continue to rise next week, thanks to a weaker dollar, stalled peace talks in the Middle East and Ukraine, the fallout from tariffs, and the impact of a major bill being passed in the US Senate that could increase public debt and inflation.

Darin Newsom, senior analyst at Barchart.com, believes that while there may be short-term corrections, gold will continue to serve as a safe haven asset for central banks and long-term investors.

Tom Bruce, macro investment specialist at Tanglewood Total Wealth Management, said that gold prices are trading steadily in the range of $3,200 to $3,400 an ounce. Investors should consider buying gold when prices are low, as the long-term trend is still up, thanks to sustained buying from institutions and central banks as they reduce their dependence on the US dollar.

Marc Chandler, CEO of Bannockburn Global Forex, said that gold prices could face selling pressure next week. According to him, the US dollar is strengthening due to positive jobs data and expectations that the upcoming CPI will be high. He said that gold prices have approached the $3,400 level but have failed to break through, so prices could fall back to $3,300.

Expert Michael Moor, founder of Moor Analytics, said that gold prices may be entering a downward correction phase, although the long-term trend from August 2018 to now is still an upward trend.

According to him, the price increase from the $2,148.4/ounce mark has achieved many of the technical targets he had previously predicted. However, the medium and long-term trends are currently in a "waiting" state, meaning there is no clear signal to determine the next direction.

According to FXTM analyst Lukman Otunuga, if gold remains below $3,400, the bears are still in control. If the price falls below $3,360, a further drop to $3,300 or even $3,000 is possible. Conversely, if the bulls want to regain the initiative, they need to push the price back above $3,360 and beyond to $3,400.
