Mr. Hoang Ninh, Deputy Director of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) informed the above information at a regular press conference on the afternoon of June 19. However, Mr. Ninh affirmed that not everything on the e-commerce platform is fake.

According to Mr. Ninh, the new Law on E-Commerce is expected to include many regulations to protect consumers, notably identifying sellers to help trace origins.

“Recently, on e-commerce platforms, when online shops are found to be in violation, they will close down to open another shop. However, if the seller is identified, we will know who that person is, thereby facilitating consumer protection, traceability, and tax collection if relevant,” said Mr. Ninh.

In addition, the new law will require e-commerce platforms to further promote their responsibility to review and screen for counterfeit and fake goods.

In addition, cross-border e-commerce platforms will be required to register as legal entities or authorize a legal entity in Vietnam to carry out consumer protection activities in case of disputes as well as detect the sale of counterfeit goods.

“These representative or authorized legal entities will be responsible to state management agencies and consumers for the products sold,” Mr. Ninh informed.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade said it will deploy many solutions to prevent counterfeit goods, fake goods, and goods that infringe intellectual property rights. Specifically: perfecting institutions; increasing the application of new technologies such as AI, blockchain, etc. to help trace the origin of goods, check counterfeit goods; and increasing propaganda to help people distinguish counterfeit goods on the internet.

“There cannot be branded goods priced at 15,000 - 20,000 VND online. If there are no buyers, there will be no sellers. Therefore, people with good awareness will be able to eliminate fake and counterfeit goods on the internet,” said Mr. Hoang Ninh.

Finally, measures to strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation to resolve disputes and handle units without legal entities in Vietnam.

Speaking more about this issue, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan emphasized: When there is information reflected, the owners of e-commerce platforms must be responsible for coordinating with market management agencies to handle it immediately. The way to handle it must be quick, possibly removing or even expelling from the platform, not allowing the "cicada shedding its shell" to return to the platform.

Deputy Minister Tan said that all authorities are taking the lead in fighting against counterfeit goods, fake goods, and goods that infringe intellectual property rights. "The Ministry of Industry and Trade is collecting data. Assessing the general situation, this campaign has had a huge impact, restoring trust with consumers. The most important thing is to create trust with consumers, and at the same time create trust with genuine producers and traders," said Mr. Tan.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade is examining and processing the complaint against Chu Thanh Huyen.

At the press conference, the Ministry of Industry and Trade was asked about Chu Thanh Huyen being accused of selling goods without invoices and documents, causing a stir in public opinion recently.

Responding to this question, Mr. Hoang Anh Duong - Deputy Director of the Department of Domestic Market Management and Development - said: "The Department has coordinated with functional agencies, the Department of Industry and Trade, and the Market Management Departments of the provinces to inspect and handle. After having specific results, we will inform you later."
